About the Office of Diversity Programs in Engineering
The Office of Diversity Programs in Engineering (DPE) offers a comprehensive portfolio of programs at the precollege, undergraduate, graduate, and faculty levels which facilitate the recruitment, development, retention, and success of all members of the engineering community, but especially those from minoritized backgrounds and/or historically underrepresented in engineering. DPE advances diversity, equity, and inclusion reflective of the College of Engineering's strategic plan, which enables community members from all backgrounds and cultures to thrive and succeed at Cornell.
We seek a highly organized, pro-active, and forward-thinking Program Coordinator to support and contribute to DPE's extensive portfolio of programs ranging from pre-college to faculty. The position requires a nimble professional who is intrinsically motivated and flexible, as we work in a dynamic environment. While modeling inclusive behavior, this role encompasses collaborating with staff, students, faculty, and community partners to aid in the design, coordination, and delivery of the outreach, recruitment, and retention programming for woman identifying engineering students. You are big picture focused as well as attune to details related to successful outcomes and innovative solutions. It's about possessing excellent communication skills, keen emotional intelligence, empathy, reliability, integrity, and charisma. Further, we are looking for a self-starter who can receive direction as well as manage up.
In this role you will:
Contribute to a high functioning work group that fosters a positive, engaged work environment.
Design, coordinate, and evaluate programs, events, and services centered on outreach, leadership development, academic excellence, and professional development initiatives to optimize engagement and success of women engineers.
Serve as a knowledgeable staff member on the components of feminism/womanism, gender identity, and the concepts of intersectionality, and how each impacts policies, procedures, and best practices.
Serve as resource for the academic, professional, and personal development of undergraduate and graduate students through advising, coaching, and mentorship.
Benchmark gender initiatives to national standards and assess outcomes with office leadership to verify that program components optimize success and facilitate engagement.
Co-plan and execute precollege recruitment and outreach for prospective women engineering students and may represent the College of Engineering with internal and external stakeholders, constituents, and alumnae.
Promote and oversee women student engagement from program design, budget management, and marketing development.
Perform advising, coaching, and mentorship to the Cornell Section of the Society of Women Engineers.
Execute and coordinate special projects and events as assigned by the Director.
Perform data collection, analysis, and management of engineering student information on university student systems and related office systems.
Hire, train, and supervise student employees and volunteers related to program needs.
Work with a high degree of accuracy, quality, timeliness, and handle confidential material per university policies and FERPA regulations.
Have support from DPE leadership to enhance your professional and technical knowledge by attending professional and educational workshops as well as support to grow your professional networks.
The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to taking ownership of their work, impact, and results. As a continuous learner who a has a demonstrated ability to use experience and sound judgement in decision-making, the candidate works both independently and collaboratively to execute tasks efficiently within a team environment.
You will NEED:
Associate's degree with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in supporting student or academic affairs functional areas.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice.
Program development/design, management, and coordination experience
Experience building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with internal and external constituencies.
Implementation of best practices for self-management, time management, organization, prioritization, conceptualization, and strategic planning.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to appropriately handle highly sensitive information.
Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
Experience supporting the recruitment and retention as well as the professional, academic, and leadership development of students
Availability to travel occasionally and work on some evenings and weekends during the summer and academic year.
Technical Skills: Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), Qualtrics (or similar Survey Tools), FileMaker Pro (or similar databases), website and social media content management and/or other related software.
What we prefer:
Master's degree and at least four (4) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated success developing data-informed programming and experience in technology applications to support student success
Demonstrate the capacity to support an inclusive learning and working environment that accommodates the modern complexities of identity.
Academic and/or applied background in the STEM disciplines, education, gender studies, student development, or other related disciplines
Experience with social media communications strategies
Data analytic and budget management experience
High energy and creativity, resilience, and exceptional judgement.
General knowledge about various engineering fields and Cornell Engineering programs, services, and resources
Valid driver's license
Salary Range: $23.92 - $29.24
