Summary of Duties:The Clinical Placement Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development and evaluation of clinical sites and arranging clinical experiences consistent with nursing course objectives. The Coordinator is the primary contact for undergraduate clinical placements and serves as the CON liaison with institutions, organizations, agencies, private practices, and individuals with whom undergraduate nursing students will have clinical experiences. The Coordinator is responsible for complex communication and problem-solving to maintain positive working relationship. The Coordinator operates from a solid understanding of nursing education and practice. The purpose of this position is to facilitate a positive clinical experience for WSU CON students in the Spokane and Yakima undergraduate nursing programs.
Essential Duties:Undergraduate Clinical Placement Coordination - 35% Works collaboratively with the Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs, graduate clinical placement coordinator, undergraduate clinical and lead faculty, clinical placement agencies, and community partners/healthcare organizations to identify appropriate sites that meet the requirements for undergraduate nursing programs (BSN, RN-BSN).
Maintains open communication with clinical placement sites and rapidly addresses needs/concerns.
Independently identifies, analyzes, and addresses concerns that arise.
Plans, develops, and maintains accurate clinical grid assignments/placements/requests.
Communicates with faculty and the Undergraduate Program Coordinator to identify numbers of placements for each course.
Works collaboratively to resolve complex placement issues, changes, and requests of the clinical faculty.
Represents the Clinical Affairs Unit at meetings/conferences that pertain to clinical site coordination.
Develops and implements processes to collect, maintain, and update data to project number of future student placements.
Trains and orients College of Nursing faculty and staff on processes that optimize the undergraduate clinical placement program.
Conducts clinical site visits in collaboration with Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs and undergraduate program directors to ensure compliance with WSU CON rules, policies, and procedures and WAC regulations.
Student Placement - 30%
Serves as point of contact for students to independently resolve site issues, such as access complications.
Attends internal/external meetings related to clinical placements.
Compiles data and recommends necessary clinical program changes based on feedback.
Assists in developing and maintaining data systems, including data retrieval and reporting.
Maintains grid through CPNW and other relevant clinical placement platforms.
Requests placements for each academic year for all semesters in all facilities.
Clinical Placement Advising - 20%
Provides first level support to students regarding any concerns with preparation for their clinical placement.
Provides first level support to students regarding concerns faced during the rotation, identifying resources to resolve issues.
Provides first level support to preceptors who are experiencing concerns with students placed in their program.
Provides first level support to faculty on any clinical placement concerns or needs that arise.
Onboarding Support - 10%
Provides coverage and support for the Undergraduate Onboarding Coordinator, as needed.
Other - 5%
Acts as a staff resource to assigned faculty curricular committees or task forces.
Facilitates communication and promotes a positive working relationship between college, student affairs, clinical affairs, and university units.
Corresponds with students and faculty to ensure timely progression to graduation
Performs other duties appropriate to the position as assigned
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to area of specialization and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements:
- One year of experience in a health related setting or organization.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
- Customer service, communication, or public relation experience.
- Ability to use and learn multiple software programs and online systems.
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of customer service; organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with diverse groups.
- Willingness and ability to take on new assignments and learn new skills as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters in Nursing or or relevant Masters Degree.
- Two years of full-time, professional experience in clinical nursing education, staff development, or clinical placement.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and/or using computerized record systems and information management.
- Experience working with a formalized network of schools of nursing and clinical agencies for student clinical placement.
