New Student Programs, Involvement & Leadership believes in building a community that strives to help Hawks soar together through the values of the SNJM sisters and the residential curriculum. The Graduate Assistant Clubs & Organizations position is a 24-hour per week, live-on commitment within the campus community.
Primary responsibilities include assisting with the planning and implementation of Fall and Spring Orientation programs, the planning and implementing of student leadership development training and activities, and planning and implementing first-year student programming, including administrative support for the First Year Experience Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ADVISING
Provide support, training, and supervision to student Peer Mentors in the First Year Experience program
Provide support, training, and supervision to Orientation Team student leaders
Work in collaboration with faculty and staff to develop effective leadership training and student programming
Provide support and training to student leaders by helping members understand their roles, how to access campus resources, and how to plan and implement programs and events
Assist with Leadership development and activities as needed; may include leadership workshops, presentations, and trainings, one-one meetings, student group forums, informal and formal events & discussions, student leadership summit, student leaders retreat, and student club training & development
Serve as a consultant, mentor, and/or role model to students, staff and colleagues
Understand how to determine student needs and interests through formal and informal assessment measures. Work with staff to develop and implement a plan to address needs and interests, most specifically as it pertains to training and programming.
Model and teach student employees in leadership development
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
Take a lead role in developing and implementing Hawk Days and New Student Orientation
Take a lead role in developing and implementing social events and activities during New Student Orientation and assist with Welcome Week events
Lead facilitation of First Year Experience semester projects including Common Reading Book events
Awareness and recognition of current, changing, and diverse identities, demographics, and needs of college students at HNU
Commitment to equity, accessible practices, inclusion, and social justice
Collaborate with Campus Partners (i.e. Counseling and Psychological Services, Housing and Residence Life, Center for Social Justice & Civic Engagement, Career Services, Student Success Center, Campus Safety, Athletics, etc.) on programming relevant to HNU students
Encourage student involvement and participation in programming and student clubs and organizations
Communicate events and activities to the University community using the Campus Events Calendar, email, flyers, etc.
Articulate to various constituents the benefits of curricular and co-curricular programs, activities, and communities. Implement and provide resources for programs that support community and student development
Assist with other campus-wide programming initiatives as needed
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Serve on the Orientation Planning Committee and Lead the Common Reading selection
Coordinating the Common Reading Author Visit Workshop
Attend all Department, Student Affairs, and University wide trainings and staff meetings
Attend weekly supervision meetings with the Director of New Student Programs, Involvement & Leadership
Attend all Department, Student Affairs, and University wide trainings and staff meetings
Participate in professional development opportunities and professional conferences
Understand and interpret student concerns, needs, and goals to effectively assist or refer to campus resources
Serve in administrative on-call rotation with Residence Life staff, providing after-hours emergency response to the residential community
Collaboration with other departments as appropriate
Effectively utilize online applications and computer programs to perform job functions and maintain communication with students and staff (ex: Blackboard, Advocate, Residence, Outlook, Microsoft Office, Qualtrics, etc).
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required
Prior experience in event planning, advising, orientation, first year experience, and/or residence life preferred
Must be an enrolled and registered Graduate Student in order to apply for this position
Organization, time management, basic computer skills
Start date: July 1st, 2022
HOURS
24 hours/week, M-F. Some evenings and weekends required
COMPENSATION
Furnished room on campus with internet and cable provided.
Participation in admin rotation includes board (14 meals a week)
Graduate tuition covered per academic year (must apply and be admitted to HNU graduate program)
