Position Purpose
The primary objective of this position is to be responsible for the development of a vibrant student engagement program that is aligned with the shared commitments (engaged & experiential teaching and learning; natural environment; civic engagement) of the College, including student leadership development, experiential and engaged learning in collaboration with academics, and traditional student events. The Director is responsible for ensuring the collaborative development with faculty and student development staff and implementation of holistic programming that exemplifies the College’s commitments to engaged learning and living across the College community. Ongoing program development, collaborating with departments across campus to build a robust programming schedule, and the development of campus wide events throughout the calendar year define this position.
Essential Duties Summary
- Oversee and assess all areas of the Office of Student Engagement, develop the marketing for the department through print and social media, and contributes as part of the Student Development leadership team;
- Serve as the budget officer for the department and oversee both operating budgets for Student Engagement and Student Senate;
- Provide support to the Office of First Year Programs and assist with orientation to plan and implement new student orientation programs, as well as assist the Director of First Year Programs to hire and train Peer Leader staff;
- Responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student employees for the on-campus Coffeehouse;
- Serve as co-advisor to the Student Senate, providing guidance and feedback to the executive board, as well as ensuring they fulfill their duties and responsibilities as representatives of the student body;
- Supervise the campus shuttles to local establishments to enhance student off-campus learning and provide shuttle service to the bus station and airport at break periods;
- Serve as the primary coordinator of student leadership development opportunities on campus as well as oversee the development of experiential and community engagement;
- Plan and implement major campus events, with special emphasis to establishing and maintaining traditional events such as seasonal campus celebrations and festivities, as well as supporting major campus events (Commencement, Admission events, etc.);
- Serve as a co-advisor to the senior class and assist with the planning, fundraising, and implementation of events geared towards seniors;
- Aid in College-wide retention efforts which promote retention through student academic success and student engagement within the NEC community (i.e. collect/analyze data, initiate/oversee specific retention efforts);
- Serve in an upper-level administrator on-call duty rotation for the College.
Required Qualifications
3-5 years experience in Student Affairs or previous experience working in a College or University setting
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of FERPA and Title 9
