Position Details:Summary of Duties:Responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the Upward Bound programs in Stevens County. Upward Bound is a federally funded academic support program that prepares and motivates low-income, first-generation and academically at-risk high school students to successfully pursue a college education. Upward Bound offers an academically challenging year-round program, including tutorial services, monthly meetings, quarterly workshops, a local and residential summer program, college visitations, career advising, cultural events, and assistance in applying for financial aid and college admission.
Coordinates program services supporting low income and first-generation college students in completing high school and enrolling in higher education and assists parents in supporting their children's academic success.
Assists in serving as liaison with high schools, builds positive working relationships with key community stakeholders, provides counseling and academic advising, and tracks student contacts. Conducts orientation workshops for students and parents, assesses student needs and develops an academic service plan for each student.
Required Qualifications:High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Requirements:- Specialty: Two full years of experience participating and/or working with low-income, first-generation, and/or academically at risk high school students.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License is required at time of appointment.
- Must be willing to travel, including overnight, on occasion. Includes travel and overnight lodging for the summer program that is conducted on the WSU Pullman campus.
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Professional experience serving students in higher education.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and/or using computerized record systems and information management.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills that facilitate communications, team building, problem solving and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse groups of people in a positive manner.
