Columbia University seeks a forward-thinking, consensus building, highly influential student affairs expert to help develop, lead, and implement policies and practices that enable the holistic support of Columbia students.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, Joseph Defraine Greenwell, the Associate Vice President for Student Success and Intervention (AVP) will lead a comprehensive student support unit that holistically looks at student conduct, case management, and student support initiatives. In this role, the AVP creates and leads a best-in-class unit that uses a 360 degree lens to approach student support work. The AVP will be intently focused on incorporating supportive measures for students with more significant needs, including students managing academic and behavioral issues, students of concern, and students with unmet basic needs. The AVP will lead University efforts with supporting students of concern, including providing leadership for the University’s behavior intervention team. In addition, the AVP will serve as a resource for specific student communities, including student parents, first generation students, former foster youth, and formerly incarcerated students.
The Associate Vice President of Student Success and Intervention will have these responsibilities within the division of University Life, which leads work on cross-school and University-level student affairs issues across Columbia’s undergraduate and graduate schools, totaling over 32,000 students. The AVP will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues and students across the University on the full range of important issues that affect the non-academic student experience, and to establish a strong operation that is dedicated to supporting and implementing university-wide student services and resources. Through developing, guiding and enhancing programs, initiatives and operations, this position will have a significant impact on the Columbia-wide student experience.
