The Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting with the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the programs and services provided by the Accessibility Resources Center to ensure the University’s compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act and other applicable state, federal and local laws. Serves as a member of the Accessibility Resources Center administrative team participating in office policy and procedures, strategic planning, programming and advising. Will assist and advise students with disabilities.

CORE DUTIES:

The Assistant Director will assist the Director with oversight of programs and services enabling students who have disabilities access to all programs and services provided by the University in compliance with federal, state and local laws. Responsibilities include the following:
 

• Participates in student intake process: Evaluates medical/psychological and other documentation, conducts interactive process with students to determine appropriate reasonable accommodations and support for students with disabilities.
• Reviews requests for temporary accommodations and coordinates appropriate accommodations.
• Monitors progress of assigned student caseload; provides direction and support for students who are experiencing academic difficulties.
• Advises students, parents faculty and staff on disability related accommodations and concerns at the higher education level.
• Provides counseling, problem-solving, advocacy, and mediation for students with disabilities.
• Conducts awareness programs to educate the University community on disability related issues and the services provided by the office.
• Determines in conjunction with the Director a departmental assessment plan and conducts assessment of departments’ programs and services as directed.
• Manages and is an Instructor for department’s Pathways to Success transition course.
• Collaborates with other campus resources, advising faculty, and developing outreach and networking opportunities on campus and in the wider community.
• Maintains department web presence, social media presence and reviews and updates departments publications.
• Represents the department at University Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, SOAR new student orientation programs and other programs as required.
• Maintains membership on campus committees as assigned.
• Co-Advises the Delta Alpha Pi Honor Society including planning and implementation of Induction ceremonies, and ensuring student recognition at graduation.
• Engages in opportunities to increase own capacity for equity, diversity, and inclusion and encourages cultural competency among students.
• Consistently treats others without bias and applies understanding to using practices and policies.
• Role models behavior which positively contributes to an inclusive work and learning environment.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment to enhancing multicultural understanding on campus.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

• Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Accessibility Resources Center.

• Master's Degree in counseling, psychology or a related discipline such as rehabilitation counseling or special education.
• Three to five years direct experience providing services/accommodations and support for persons with disabilities in a college/university setting.
• Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 - Amended 2010, the Fair Housing Act, and other applicable federal, state, and local laws.
• Knowledge of and experience with assessing disability documentation and determining reasonable accommodations. This includes knowledge of assessment tools and test scores generally used in making diagnoses.
• Knowledge of assistive technology applications and their use in assisting with persons with disabilities.
• Staff management and positive record of progressively responsible administrative experience. At least three years of management and staff supervision.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail; Significant experience with conducing assessment of programs and services.
• Strong written communication and editing skills.
