POSITIONSUMMARY
The Associate Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct provides leadership to the live-in Residence Life team who collectively are charged with facilitating a robust residential experience throughout the halls. The Associate Director will help plan and operationalize the residential curriculum, which is centered on inclusive community building, civic engagement, and restorative practices. The Associate Director directly supervises five live-in residence life staff members and indirectly supervises a large student staff. The Associate Director would also lead coordination of the training, recruiting, and selection of the student staff members with the live-in residence life staff. Additionally, the Associate Director assists the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students in the facilitation of student conduct processes. Due to on-call responsibilities, this position is required to live within 20 minutes of Grinnell city limits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct day-to-day supervision for five professional live-in staff and indirect supervision to a large student staff. Set clear expectations for the team while building upon the individual strengths and talents of each staff member. Meet individually and collectively with the RLC team to provide coaching and guidance. In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Residence Life, lead RLC recruitment, selection, and training efforts.
Oversee the department’s efforts related to student staff recruitment, selection, and training, as well as the design and implementation of the residential curriculum.
Represent the department and division on institutional committees and develop cross-divisional collaborations in pursuit of departmental and divisional goals.
Serve on the department’s leadership team with the Assistant Dean of Residence Life and Student Conduct and the Assistant Director of Residence Life for Housing Operations to develop and implement the strategic direction for the on-campus residential experience.
Respond to student issues directly and mobilize residence life staff (professional and student) in support of care response in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Student Success. Support the AVP/DOS in the facilitation of student conduct processes, including but not limited to advising Judicial Council hearings, updating Maxient, and pre/post-hearing conferences with students.
Serve in “Dean on Call” weekly rotation with other Student Affairs’ Deans and Directors, providing assistance and direction to the Residence Life Coordinator on Call as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s Degree or Equivalent
Experience in higher education administration, college student personnel, counseling, or other area relevant to student affairs is preferred
Five years or more related work experience necessary
Required to live within 20 minutes of Grinnell city limits
