The Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness & Planning is a key member of the College’s leadership team and contributes directly to the overall College strategy as well as analysis and assessment of operations. This thought leader will collaborate with the Vice President for Finance & Administration, other members of the President’s Senior Leadership Team, and peers in various offices of the College through the development of aligned, integrated, data-informed and action-oriented plans and recommendations to promote institutional strength.
The Associate Vice President for Effectiveness & Planning will develop, lead and oversee an expanded and reimagined organization with three key functions: institutional research; enrollment and student success data management; and operational effectiveness. The new leader will be responsible for further development of the operational vision, building the team, and pursuing the broadened scope of the former Institutional Research Office. The strategic and proactive leader will ensure the data and analyses of these three functions are accessible and fully leveraged to support strategy development; identify and resolve key issues; develop effective policies and plans, and meet compliance requirements. This mission-centric leader will serve on and lead a variety of internal committees and is the institutional representative and coordinates reporting to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and Consortium on Financing Higher Education (COFHE).
- Build the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Planning to include the addition of an Enrollment & Student Success Data Management function to focus on data and analyses that promote and enhance success for all of our students; and establish an Operational Effectiveness function to support effective, efficient, and high performing administrative functions as well as integrated planning.
- Provide a high level of expertise in institutional research across campus functions and coordination of analyses from disparate sources to provide new insights, support integrated assessment and planning and develop clear, actionable insights.
- Proven ability to integrate analyses from disparate sources to provide new actionable insights, and develop synthesized plans.
- Serve as member of the Assessment Committee and supply expertise and leadership in assessment activities, including the development of recommendations of effective practices and support for self-study processes that maintain compliance with the Higher Learning Commission.
- Direct, coordinate and oversee institution-wide assessment efforts and promote alignment with Oberlin’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
- Establish a data-informed culture through mentoring as well as the development of communities of practice to support analysts and program managers campus-wide.
- Develop and maintain an institution-wide performance dashboard of key metrics and support the development of similar dashboards and metrics for divisional strategic plans.
- Provide data and analysis to describe Oberlin and its position in the higher education marketplace to internal and external audiences, and support market research.
- Work with administrative units to improve access to and integrity of institutional data, including leadership of data governance in collaboration with the Center of Information Technology.
- Bachelor’s degree and ten years of leadership experience in data analytics and strategy in higher education (Master’s preferred).
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in scope of research agenda and methodologies employed.
- Advanced knowledge of research process, applied statistics, including predictive analytics using industry-standard tools to support qualitative and quantitative research.
- Prior experience with the development of analytical models.
- Understand and communicate the complex business of higher education, including academic, student services and administrative functions, work systems, and processes that enable self-initiated pursuit and advancement of College strategic initiatives.
- Knowledge of higher education assessment processes and modes to effectively and efficiently track, organize and manage assessment data.
