Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Engagement, the Career Engagement Specialist is responsible for advancing and activating a career-engaged campus ecosystem by developing and implementing major programs, systems, and initiatives designed to teach students the life-long continuous process of personal and career development and foster meaningful connections with industry and alumni. This professional serves as a direct liaison to students, administrators, faculty, and staff and collaboratively cultivates relationships with companies, organizations, and alumni in the Arts and Humanities areas and those related to diversity and inclusion initiatives. The Career Engagement Specialist provides career coaching to help students from all majors discover and prepare for career pathways, articulate their career ready and transferable skills, and build community that propels their career aspirations. This role empowers students to use their agency to make educated decisions as they reflect on their talents and explore the ever-changing landscape of careers through innovative and strategic connections.
Salary Information: Salary Range: $55,100 - $63,500 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

30% - Campus and Industry Relationship Development and Management
Fully engage the university network in support of student career success by developing new and deepening existing collaborative relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff as a consultant to the Division of Arts, Division of Humanities, two assigned colleges, and other identified university partners.
Actively seek approaches to expand and meaningfully scale Career Success' reach across campus to activate a career-engaged campus culture integrated throughout the entire student lifecycle.
Facilitate strategic planning within the Division of Arts, Division of Humanities, and two assigned colleges, to identify opportunities for collaborative programming and/or to utilize career success e-learning content.
Consult within the Division of Arts, Division of Humanities, and two assigned colleges, on best practices to have career success conversations and industry engagement with students.
Track and maintain records on career engagement activity among the Division of Arts, Division of Humanities, and two assigned colleges.
In collaboration with the entire Career Success team, develop and implement an annual strategic plan to support industry engagement, increasing employer participation within programs and recruiting efforts.
Cultivate and coordinate strategic partnerships with new employers, alumni, key organizations, and other external entities in assigned industry areas; in collaboration with colleagues internally and across UCSC.
Initiate, promote, and steward these relationships to expand engagement opportunities, professional networks, mentoring, and recruitment of students.
30% - Program Implementation and Industry Engagement
Monitor student interests and engagement patterns, as well as workplace and industry trends in Arts, Creative, Communications/Media to guide strategic planning and programmatic initiative with a lens for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Develop and deliver a portfolio of programs and initiatives designed to help students discover and prepare for career pathways, articulate their career ready and transferable skills, and build community that propels their career aspirations.
In collaboration with the Recruiting and Events Specialist, facilitate the process of establishing meaningful connections between students, industry, and alumni by implementing educational opportunities, networking events, industry panels, career fairs, boutique recruiting forums, industry treks, and other programming initiatives.
Identify, implement, and manage technology systems, programs and resources that enhance and accelerate the networking and connections process for employers, alumni, and students in assigned industry areas.
Collect and analyze participation and engagement data of programs in order to assure quality and improve student engagement, preparing quarterly and annual reports as requested and as helpful for the Division of Arts, Division of Humanities, and two assigned colleges.
Recommend initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and achieve learning outcomes.
Manage incoming requested programs from campus partners by overseeing/improving request intake process, facilitating team discussions around scheduling and capacity, then delegating appropriately.
25% - Student Engagement
Advance the quality, and inclusive and equitable practice of career coaching by researching and facilitating training for the career engagement team.
Conduct career coaching for students through workshops and other experiences in ways that are engaging, culturally conscious, and effective.
Leverage industry insights to provide relevant experiences, trainings and guidance to students.
Connect students to resources, industry, alumni, and experiential learning opportunities.
Design and deliver experiences, trainings, workshops and events for students on foundational and advanced career success topics.
Collect and analyze outcomes data in order to assure quality and improve student engagement, preparing quarterly and annual reports as requested and as helpful for the Division of Arts, Division of Humanities, and two assigned colleges.
May develop and teach courses that promote the career success of students.
10% - E-Learning Design and Content Creation
Design and create e-learning content (tutorials, asynchronous Canvas modules, worksheets/guides, blended learning toolkits, audio and video content, website/blog text, case studies, etc.) which transform career success topics into engaging instruction.
Review department materials and processes for areas of improvement.
Catalog and maintain updated content and e-learning resources.
Be the voice of the learner, ensuring that their needs are at the forefront of our content efforts and help our team iterate and improve on our content offerings.
5% - Continuous Benchmarking and University Representation
Ensure continuous enhancements through local, regional, and national benchmarking with career coaching peers and robust industry networks.
Update position-related skills by participating in appropriate professional development offerings throughout the year.
Represent UCSC Career Success through active involvement and leadership in regional and national associations.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs.
