POSITION DETAILS
The Assistant Director of the Macaulay Honors College position is located at Hunter College ofCUNY.The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Director is to adviseand mentor honorsstudents enrolled in the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College to optimize their successful completion of their academic programs within four years, support the activities of the office withinthe community,to supervise the advisors within the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College, and act as the primary individual to liaise with the Office of Financial Aid and TAP Certification.
Reporting to the Director of the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College, the Assistant Director will encourage students to develop intellectual curiosity,civic engagement, and meritorious conduct expected of all honors students.
Advisors are a critical resource to honors students,not only in their years ofstudy,but also upon graduation. Advisors are expected to maintain relations with the graduates and help to developa strongalumni community committed to the advancement of their AlmaMater.
Duties include but are not limited to:
-Advises students on course selection eachsemester,monitoring progress toward degree, andselecting amajor and finding major advisors and faculty mentors;
-Consults with faculty to assist students undertaking independent study and study abroad opportunities
-Advises students about required Co-curricular activities including internships,study abroad, and community service;
-Advises on other activitiesinvolving student organizations and events;
-Reviews and approves student applications to utilize the opportunities fund;
-Assistsstudents with Graduate School and fellowship applications and post baccalaureate jobsearches;
-Participates in regular reviews of all honors students in terms of academic performance and community engagement; Workswith the honors director to identify an retain at risk students;
-Leads first year student seminars and participates in other activities that help provide a firm transition for honor students in to college roles and expectations;
-Overseas peer mentoring or buddy systems and ambassador programs;
-Works closely with honors advisors on other campuses as well as with Macaulay central staff to support studentsuccess;
-Participatesin Macaulay honors activities on the campuses and central E as well as in local and national professional development opportunities;
-Acts as liaison for both the student and the college honors program to campus student affairs and support services suchas career services,counseling services, tutoring services, registrar, births are,and financial aid;
-Actsas an instructor and participates in other activities that help enrich the writing, academic skills,or pre professional skills of Macaulay students;
-Supervise the performance of all Seniors Academic Advisors in the office;
-Coordinate with the Office of Financial Aid in resolving thoseissues;
-Coordinate with the Hunter College TAP Certification Officer;
-Performs otherduties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years of related experiencerequired.
Other Qualifications
A preferred candidate should have:
M.A . in student counseling, guidance, or a related discipline or advanced academic degree and honors counseling experience
Two years of relevant experience withhigh achieving orhonors students, preferably in a diverse, urban institution of higher education
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential Experience with student informationand automateddegree audit systems Experience with Financial Aid Reporting Systems
Experience in supervising Honors Advisors Experience in TAP Certification
Familiarity with best practices in academic advisement Ability to work as a team member
Ability to communicate effectivelywith adiverse undergraduate student population Ability to work aflexiblework schedule,including some evening and weekend hours
Vaccine Requirement:
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law.
