Assistant/Associate Coop CoordinatorAbout the OpportunityResponsibilities:Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The Khoury College of Computer Sciences is seeking an Assistant/Associate Co-op Education Coordinator to work with our undergraduate student population. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position, working with students in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences. You will join a team of 12 highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to Computer Science students.
Education of Students: The Co-op Coordinator guides students through their career development, co-op experiences, and experiential learning. They educate, advise, and coach students, developing and delivering effective teaching and coaching programs that enable students to be successful in today's global business environment. This includes, but is not limited to, working with students one-on-one, in workshops and in the classroom.
The Co-op Coordinator teaches a career education course each semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, professional behavior and communication, workplace ethics, as well as leadership skills, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence development.
The Co-op Coordinator also maintains contact with students while engaged in their co-op experience and works with students through their post-co-op reflection.
Integrated Learning:
Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom learning. The Coordinator collaborates with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic experiences. The Co-op Coordinator shares knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with curriculum-based learning.
Employer Relations: The coordinators will conduct site visits to new and existing employers during student placements to assess student success, employer satisfaction and opportunities for additional co-op positions. The coordinators will develop and maintain an understanding of industry/field, employers, and positions available to Khoury students. The coordinators will work closely with the business development team to review new accounts and identify opportunities for deepening employer relationships. The coordinators will work with the business development team, as needed, on employer related on-campus or virtual events.
Qualifications:- A master's degree in college student development, counseling, education, psychology or a computer science related field is required by the appointment start date, as well a minimum of three years of professional work experience. maintaining diversity in the workplace is required.
- Experience as a career coach, certification preferable, but not required.
- Teaching experience in a classroom environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences
- Experience working with a diverse staff and/or student population and a demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace
- Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, and strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual's career development
- Ability to effectively engage a diverse network of global stakeholders, across time zones.
