The Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) unit in Michigan State University’s Department of Educational Administration seeks a full-time, 9-month, fixed-term Assistant Professor to join a dynamic group of faculty and students. The HALE unit offers three graduate programs and one certificate program (Student Affairs Administration Master’s [SAA MA], online HALE Master’s, HALE PhD, and Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Postsecondary Education). HALE is recognized nationally and internationally for its high-quality graduate programs and scholarly contributions to higher and adult education and student affairs.
HALE seeks a colleague who takes a social justice approach to understanding teaching and learning in postsecondary education and/or college student development and student affairs. Priority will be given to candidates who are also able to teach courses addressing one or more of the following topics:
· Diversity, equity, and inclusion in postsecondary education.
· College student access and success.
· Technology in postsecondary education.
· Community colleges.
The fixed-term Assistant Professor will teach in HALE’s graduate programs, contribute service to support the HALE unit, and contribute to their field of study through scholarly and research activities. The appointment time allocation is 75% teaching (3 courses in the fall semester, and 3 courses in the spring semester), 12.5% service, and 12.5% research.
The initial appointment is for one academic year, August 2022 – May 2023, with the potential for renewal as a multi-year contract, contingent upon performance and funding. While this is not a tenure-accruing position, Michigan State University offers career progression for fixed-term faculty members.
