The part-time campus police officer will enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. May be required to work at the WCC Wytheville Campus, the Crossroads Institute in Galax, VA and/or the Henderson Center in Marion, VA.Â Â Job ResponsibilitiesÂ Â Some of the job responsibilities include but are not limited to:Â Foot patrol of the grounds and buildings for main campus and/or off-sites;Â Check doors and complete record of findings;Â Secure buildings and open doors as needed;Â Provide assistance to other departments within and without the college system;Â Answer phones and questions from visitors in a professional and courteous manner;Â Handle complaints using proper customer service methods;Â Act as a liaison to emergency responders in the event of an emergency;Â Complete required reports in a timely fashion ensuring the completeness;Â Participate in emergency drills;Â Evaluate the emergency drills process and provide feedback;Â Report building and grounds deficiencies to the Maintenance Department and ensure proper warning material is used and displayed properly;Â Display initiative and efficiency;Â Practice good team work inside the department;Â Practice regular and dependable attendance and punctuality;Â Use knowledge and reasoning skills to make sound decisions that enhance the mission of the department and college;Â Obtain and maintain certification in Taser, First Aid, CPR, and AED; andÂ Complete all other training as required by the college and DCJS.
Must have current certification through VA DCJS (Law Enforcement) including Academy completion (required for sworn Police Officer designation;Â Must have current firearms certification and maintain such;Â Â Â Must maintain First Aid and CPR training;Â Â Must be physically able to walk considerable distances;Â Â Â Must complete appropriate level of NIMS training;Â Â Â Must have the ability to calmly and professionally handle simple and complex situations;Â Â Must provide quality customer service to students, visitors, and staffÂ Â Must be able to successfully complete all trainings as required by the college; andÂ Â Must maintain certification in the use of the Taser.
