The Program Coordinator provides advanced administrative support to the Master in Energy Economics (MEECON) program in the Department of Economics. This position will coordinate and support administrative functions and operations of the MEECON program, assist with the Rice Initiative for the Study of Economics ( RISE) program and assist department faculty and students with expense reports.
$21.63 to $24.04 per hour
Provides support to faculty, administrators, students, and staff by implementing and administering day-to-day functions of the program
Coordinates program administration, curriculum support, and, communications / outreach
Interprets, implements and ensures compliance with policies and procedures, and recommends alternative solutions
Reviews and monitors trends to provide recommendations to streamline functions in the department
Represents the program within the school
Create communications and outreach plans that may include relationship development, communications, and/or compliance
Completes other duties as assigned
Additional Functions / Information
Provides assistance and guidance in navigating program requirements, GPA and academic standing, progress to degree, course selection for Master of Energy Economics students
Interprets and applies campus and University-wide policies and regulations. Using professional judgment and expertise, advise on complex student or program-related issues which do not fall within clearly defined guidelines
Assists in advising Master of Energy Economics students in identifying interests and strengths related to job search
Monitors, evaluates and actively engages with students experiencing scholastic difficulty to support their academic success. Recommend appropriate courses of action by the department (e.g., academic probation, dismissal)
Assists with the planning of program and school-wide student services, programs, and initiatives (e.g., Orientation, employer visits and alumni visits), including developing and producing informational or publicity materials
Establishes, fosters relationships, and develops programming with key student support and administrative units on campus to support academic succes
Creates and contributes to academic orientation programming and other programs as assigned.
Actively engages with program alumni to build relationships between current students and alumni to support a culture of networking and engagement after program ends
Outreach & Yield
Using Slate CRM tool, drafts and configures email communications plans for multiple audience groups in our inquiry pools.
Participates in outreach events, develop strategies to reach prospective students, and represent the Master of Energy Economics, as needed
Maintains an updated resume book available to prospective employers and industry partners
Scheduling & Enrollment Management
In consultation with the department administrator, oversees administrative aspects associated with class scheduling and enrollment management of designated list of courses
Provides information to instructors about scheduling and enrollment procedures, and College and campus practices
Works with prospective employers and industry experts to arrange visits with students (on or off campus)
Coordinates Rice Initiative for the Study of Economics (RISE) events . Liaises with department administrator about special events budget. Ensures event expenses align with budget allocations and that invoices are submitted in a timely manner
Prepares expense reports for department faculty and students
3 years of related experience in an administrative support or other related role
Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software programs to complete work assignments
Intermediate data reporting skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Basic problem solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to work under moderate supervision and complete tasks timely
Customer service oriented
Academic advising experience in an academic setting
Thorough knowledge of academic advising and counseling techniques
