The Assistant Director, Student Wellness & Counseling Center, under the direction of the Director, supervises a comprehensive personal development program in support of academic and professional success of students. Provides crisis intervention counseling and short-term individual, couples, and group counseling for improving personal, academic, and wellness related to academic success.
May supervise Student Wellness & Counseling Center professional and administrative staff. Provides mental health and wellness development training to students, faculty, and staff. Consults with staff and faculty on services for students. Maintains referral network. Maintains personal, academic, and wellness self-help resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides comprehensive counseling and crisis intervention services.
Supervises and trains assigned staff.
Represents department at University and other functions as appropriate.
Assists Director with organizational and administrative tasks as requested.
Other duties may be assigned.
Education: Masterâ™s degree in Counseling, Educational or Clinical Psychology or related field.
Experience: One to Three years full-time post-licensing (associate license or full license) counseling experience working with college students and or veterans, low-income and diverse populations. Â
Knowledge of: Â Knowledge of professional counseling theories, learning theory, and be familiar with diagnostic assessments.
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Crisis intervention skills. Consultation skills. Presentation skills. General individualized counseling skills. Ability to relate empathically, effectively, and consistently with diverse student population including sensitivity to cultural differences. Foundational understanding of counseling, consulting, psychological and diagnostic assessments, and training skills. Must be able to develop, facilitate, and evaluate afternoon and evening group counseling sessions.Â
Licensing / Professional Certification: Must become licensed as a LPC, LMFT or equivalent within Texas within 6 months of employment.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift between 10 and 30 pounds, especially during outreach and community events.
