To provide direct management of Student Union (SU) communications/publications, assessment/strategic planning, marketing, oversight of SU Programming activities, and supervision of the Assistant Director. Responsible for programming, communications/publications, marketing, and assessment and strategic plans for the Student Union. Assure compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Typical: 1. Provide administrative direction and coordination for a comprehensive marketing and promotions program for the SU including market research, survey analysis, campaign planning and strategy development, materials development, image enhancement, etc. 2. Takes the lead in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and detailed student development plan for Student Union (SU) student employees. Additional responsibility will also include assisting with the coordination and planning of SU student staff training, including but not limited to: new student staff on-boarding and training, SU Orientation, student manager training, graduate assistant development curriculum, and student development series workshops. 3. Utilize graphic, web, multimedia design, and social media in the execution of marketing plans. 4. Coordinate website maintenance, updates, and development with assigned staff. 5. Provide oversight of the department’s strategic planning, assessment, and annual report development processes. 6. Provide administrative oversight to SU Information Center, including implementation of marketing and engagement strategies, activities and resources to ensure established goals and objectives are achieved. 7. Provide oversight of assessment initiatives for all SU programs and services including planning and data gathering and analysis. Coordinate design, implementation, and interpretation of assessment projects within the department. 8. Preparation of annual budgets for assigned areas of responsibility. 9. Oversee selection, training, and supervision of assigned student operations, assuring excellence in customer service. 10. Provide oversight of SU Programs and supervision to the Assistant Director of Programming in developing cohesive, relevant and enriching programs and activities. 11. Establish contacts and sound working relationships with other campus departments, organizational advisors, faculty and staff, as well as student organizations. 12. Coordinate the SU’s participation in orientation sessions for freshman and transfer students, as well as recruitment events. 13. Develop and implement marketing plans and campaigns, as well as other promotional activities, in collaboration with department supervisors and commercial partners, to ensure a consistent messaging approach throughout the SU. 14. Work with The Paisano and the Office of University Communications and Marketing to coordinate advertising, news coverage of SU events and services, and feature articles about the department. 15. Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and detailed student development plan for Student Union student employees as chair of the Student Staff development committee. 16. Ensure recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of student staff in assigned areas (e.g., Roost Game room, Gallery 23, etc.) complies with UTSA and SU policies and procedures. 17. Represent the SU on campus committees and participate in various University functions. 18. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Master’s degree from accredited institution.
Three years of work experience in one of the following areas: student affairs, retail/customer service, marketing, communication, events, or related field.
A demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service.
Experience working effectively with college students in a university setting.
Experience advising student groups in a University setting.
Working knowledge of the Apple operating system, MS Office, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Knowledge of web and graphic design principles and understanding of current trends.
Knowledge of principles and practices of student development.

Five years of work experience in student affairs in a supervisory position within a university setting.
Experience coordinating comprehensive major events in a higher education setting
Knowledge of marketing and advertising strategies utilizing web-based technology and other electronic methods of communicating to targeted audiences.
Experience working in a university center/college union.
Ability to work proficiently on both Apple and PC platforms.
Working knowledge of editing video for production and web purposes.
Demonstrated ability in web design and desktop publishing.
