Virginia Highlands Community College serves our community by providing quality and affordable education, training, and cultural activities through an array of flexible, diverse programs that enable community members to succeed today and in the future.Recruit and work with college students to support and enhance their success.Assist students with navigation of application and enrollment procedures.Assist students in developing individualized academic plans; enrollment; applying for financial aid and scholarships; identifying academic needs and serve as referral for tutoring or other learning support resources; visit student development (SDV) classes and provide follow up when risk factors such as poor attendance or low grades are evident.Communicate with students on a regular basis and engage them in-person, online, individually, and/or in small groups.Communicate with college faculty and coordinate with student services personnel regarding students to ensure they have access to college resources and support that will lead to completion of their academic program.Capture appropriate data on student communications/interactions and success strategies in order to strengthen the collegeâ™s retention efforts.In addition to providing support and resources for students, this position will be responsible for retention, outreach and recruitment activities; some evening and week-end work required.Represent the College at events, visits to community sites to talk with prospective students and identifying students interested in the College.Assist with the coordination and implementation of individual and campus visits.Coordinate the flow of communication between VHCC and prospective students, including but not limited to, follow-up with prospective students who have initiated a VHCC and/or a FAFSA application.Coordinate the Student Development course and New Student Orientation program.Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty & staff, and other stakeholders important to the college.
Education and/or experience equivalent to Baccalaureate degreeExperience working with students in higher educationÂ Demonstrated understanding of the needs of at-risk students and commitment to the mission of a community collegeÂ Willingness to work a flexible schedule to represent the college including evenings and weekendsÂ Ability to maintain a high level of ethics, professionalism and confidentiality in performance of all dutiesStrong written and oral communication skillsStrong interpersonal skillsStrong analytical, organizational and time-management skillsAbility to work independently and/or with a teamProficient in Microsoft Office (or similar) software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web applicationsAbility to interpret and apply policies and procedures with high level of independenceAbility to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty & staff and other stakeholders important to the college
