Summary of Position: The Career Services Coordinator oversees development, implementation and daily operations of Career Services for PharmD Students in the College of Pharmacy. In collaboration with the Director of Student Services, this position assesses needs and develops priorities, goals, and objectives of career services in Duluth and the Twin Cities and continuously improves services based on evaluation and assessment. In addition, this individual provides career programming to PharmD students within and outside the curriculum, provides 1:1 career advising, builds and maintains relationships with various stakeholders such as employers, alumni, faculty, and staff as well as collaborates with other departments in the College of Pharmacy such as Clinical and Professional Affairs and Experiential Education to enhance career services. This position reports to the Director of Student Services, who is responsible for the mission, vision and overall strategy of student and career services. This position is posted on both the U of M Duluth and Twin Cities campus job boards, but only one candidate will be selected. More travel will be required if the candidate is based on the Duluth campus (10%) compared to the Twin Cities campus (5%). The position may allow for as much as 20% remote work.
Career Advising (50%) Provide one on one or group career advising to PharmD students: Help students identify their career goals and create plans to achieve them Assist students in finding internships or part-time employment Coach students on networking strategies, including use of tools such as LinkedIn Provide feedback and critiques on students’ resume/CVs, cover letters, and other job-search related documentation Provide students feedback on interview techniques and conduct mock interviews Advise students on the residency match process Provide guidance in job searching, including salary negotiation Design, develop, and deliver career development workshops on specific topics
Career Services Coordination - (30%) Provide the delivery of Career Services in the College of Pharmacy’s PharmD program. Develop priorities, goals, objectives and assessment of career services in collaboration with the Director of Student Services aligned with the college and university’s mission and strategic plan as well as pharmacy career trends and the needs of the diverse PharmD student population. Identify career development needs of students and anticipate future trends. Develop innovative programming to meet the needs of current and future students. Collaborate with the Assistant to the Dean for Assessment to ensure graduate employment/first destination data is collected and reported accurately and consistently. Engage in a continuous improvement process using assessments to guide revision of strategies, implementation and programming. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with faculty, staff, employers, and alumni to determine employment and professional development needs (i.e. knowledge, skills, experiences) for PharmD students. Manage job and internship postings received from employers to be accessible to all students and recent alumni in accordance with professional association (i.e. NACE) standards. Coordinate events related to Career Services (Career & Internship Fairs, networking events, etc). Maintain employer contacts for recruiting and networking purposes.
Career Programming in and out of curriculum (15% with affiliate faculty title) Design and deliver career development programming through several for-credit courses (eg. Becoming a Pharmacist, Career & Professional Foundations) and through elective/optional workshops and sessions. Train faculty and other staff to deliver career development content. Serve as a faculty member as part of career development embedded in the curriculum. Collaborate with course faculty, Experiential Education, and alumni in order to deliver seamless career services across the curriculum. Collaborate with the Director of the University of Minnesota PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program to provide residency preparation resources to PharmD students. Serve as the primary instructor for PHAR 6900: Directed Study for Pharmacy Employment, ensuring international students have equitable access to internship opportunities while in the PharmD program.
Innovation & Professional Development & Team Support (5%) As a team member in the Offices of Student Services, provide information to other team members and support them in the performance of their job responsibilities in a manner consistent with efficient operations and a service environment. Assist with special events, as needed. Participate in professional development, service improvement efforts, and finding innovative ways to improve services. Carry out any other assigned office tasks that are essential to the professional operation of the unit.
Salary range: $55,000-$63,000

Preferred Qualifications: Graduate degree in a related field Experience in career advising, preferably at the graduate professional level or in health sciences Experience developing or leading career services and programming in higher education Experience in leading or coordinating employer relations
