Thomas Nelson Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.Thomas Nelson Community College changes lives, empowers students to succeed, and enhances the social and economic vitality of the region through high quality education and workforce training, excellent service, and innovative partnerships.Â Nursing faculty are required to provide instruction, support, assessment, and mentorship to Thomas Nelson Community Collegeâ™s students, staff and supporting faculty. Nursing faculty are required to fully participate in the mission and community of the college. The major emphasis shall be on teaching, by working with students in classrooms, laboratories, clinical sites, field sites, indoors, outdoors, distance learning, individual conferences, and related activities to help the students develop their interests and abilities to the fullest capacity to become better persons, better workers, and better citizens.
Masterâ™s degree in Nursing or Nursing Education from a regionally accredited institution. Clinical nursing practice experience. Current, unrestricted Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health Professions Registered Nurse license or compact designation.Â Â Â Specialized knowledge:Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and trends. Knowledge of current nursing curricular content and National Education Standards.Knowledge of current nursing statewide curriculum.Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.Knowledge of competency-based education principles and methods.SkillsExcellent oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.Â Â AbilitiesÂ Ability to work at all campus, site and clinical locations.Â Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.Â Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants.Ability to adhere to established standards for educational quality.Ability to maintain complete, accurate educational records.Maintains compliance with American Heart Association Training Site and course requirements before, during and following instruction, as assigned.Ability to adapt nursing curricula to reflect state requirements, local needs, and national trends.Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.Professional Certification/CertificateÂ Current CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
