This is a twelve-month Academic Specialist- Advisor position in the continuing system with the College of Natural Science Undergraduate Academic and Student Affairs Office. The selected individual will serve as the Assistant Director of Pre-Health and Human Biology Advising, will report to the Director of Academic Advising and Strategic Initiatives and will have secondary reporting duties to the Director of Human Biology. Human Biology is the largest major in the College of Natural Science and serves students interested in biomedical and health science careers. The Assistant Director serves as the direct supervisor to the Human Biology and Pre-Health Academic Advisors. The Assistant Director maintains an advising caseload that includes both Human Biology majors as well as students pursuing professional school admission in health areas and ensures continuity of unit function. Advising duties include but are not limited to enrollment, course combination knowledge, academic planning, and referrals to student success resources.
The selected candidate will serve as the lead advisor for the Human Biology major and will coordinate participation in New Student Orientation and other campus or college events on behalf of the major. The Assistant Director will complete degree certification for Human Biology majors in the College of Natural Science and in Lyman Briggs College (a residential college with coordinated Natural Science majors). The selected individual will serve as a liaison with advisors and administrators in the academic units of the College, with other college academic and student offices with support services throughout the University that impact students pursuing a Human Biology pre-health course of study.
The goals of the College of Natural Science Undergraduate Academic and Student Affairs Office align with the broader institution and College goals of closing opportunity gaps for underrepresented students by increasing persistence, retention and graduation rates and decreasing time to degree. The College seeks candidates who have a record of success advising and mentoring individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM.

Masters -Education, Counseling or related field
Masters Degree in education, counseling or related field
A minimum of 3-5 years of academic advising experience in higher education including working with a diverse population of students and a record of progressive growth in the level and complexity of responsibilities.
Evidence of successful collaborations around issues related to advising and student success
Evidence of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in a higher education setting
Supervisory or leadership experience
Experience with Campus Solutions or other student information systems
Experience advising Pre-Health students
An understanding of science curricula or experience working with STEM students
Evidence of and commitment to professional development
