The Academic Advisor advises students, recruits students and promotes student success, retention and progression to graduation.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Advises students on academic matters, including degree offerings, course and degree requirement, university/college processes and procedures, academic issues, and progression to graduation.
Assists students with course registration process, drop/add, and course or university withdrawal processes.
Provides individualized student outreach to students based on identified risk factors including academic, financial and socio-economic; assisting them in developing individual plans for success.
Provides academic coaching and support for students on an ongoing basis.
Assists with recruitment activities and outreach, meets with prospective students, represents the department at orientation, commencement and other events.
Organizes and maintains files, respond to inquiries, coordinate incoming and outgoing communications. Maintain electronic files for student statistics.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Masterâ™s degree in Education, Higher Education or similar field with three to five years related experience.
Working knowledge of Advising best practices.
Detailed knowledge of transfer requirements with demonstrated ability to critically evaluate student records and transcripts.
Working knowledge of enrollment management and retention best practices and the ability to apply them to a university environment.
Demonstrated understanding of curriculum for degree programs.
Working knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Americans with Disability ACT (ADA) as it relates to student accommodation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to explain academic policies and procedures to diverse constituents, including students, faculty and staff.
Bachelorâ™s degree in education, higher education or similar field with three years related experience.
$47,300.00 - $78,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
