Summary SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Director of Counseling & Wellness at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy is responsible for offering programs and services to support the health and well-being of students by embracing a holistic concept of health. The responsibilities include campus counseling, wellness initiatives, direct clinical services, staff supervision, and development and oversight of programs to support the personal and academic success of all students.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as an administrative leader of Counseling and Wellness programs and fulfills various clinical responsibilities as a licensed therapist.
Provides strategic leadership and planning, management, and assessment of the Center's programs and services.
Identifies, recommends, and implements holistic care strategies that support the goal of student retention.
Develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures that are consistent with professional regulations and statutes, as well as best practices of counseling and wellness.
Serves as a resource for legal and ethical issues.
Develops, administers and analyzes continuous assessment of programs.
Prepares and evaluates statistical, analytical and narrative reports to be used for decision-making and program improvement.
Supervises full-time counselor and graduate assistants.
Serves as field instructor for counseling and psychology trainees.
Provide consultation and education to faculty and staff regarding student behavioral and emotional issues, classroom concerns and current behavioral health issues.
Maintains and promotes the highest ethical and professional standards.
Serves on the Students of Concern Committee.
Cultivates and maintains collaborative working relationships with external providers of mental health services for the purpose of referrals and/or the coordination of a continuum of care for students.
Serves as the AUCCCD (Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors) institutional representative.
Provides culturally sensitive individual and group counseling to students with a broad range of difficulties and diagnoses, including psychological, social, or other difficulties that interfere with students' academic and personal success.
Provides walk-in crisis counseling for students in need.
Provides crisis intervention and response during campus emergencies.
Chairs the campus Wellness Committee, overseeing the creation and implementation of campus wellness programming/outreach activities, in collaboration with other campus departments.
Develop partnerships across campus in order to provide proactive educational outreach.
Serves on other campus committees and task groups as needed.
Provides consultation and education for campus constituents about counseling and wellness issues.
Participates in trainings and orientations for new students, faculty, and staff.
Oversees the operations of the Counseling & Wellness Center including management of administrative, operational, personnel, and financial responsibilities.
Seeks out external funding sources (I.e. grants and gifts) to support outreach efforts.
Oversees CCAPS database and electronic record-keeping.
Participates in the oversight of department budget, including making recommendations and requests.
Qualifications Education & Experience:
A Ph.D/Psy.D in clinical psychology or Master's degree in mental health counseling, counseling psychology, social work or other closely related discipline.
Minimum of three years experience working in a clinical counseling role, preferably in higher education
Experience and comfort with crisis intervention and risk assessment for suicide, violence, substance abuse, and other psychological/behavioral emergencies.
In-depth understanding of the changing demographics and the psychological challenges, and mental and behavioral health needs of college students is highly preferred.
Preferred experience in a college/university counseling center in an administrative, supervisory capacity with evidence of financial management and data collection.
Possession of strong cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations (i.e. race, ethnicity, LGBT, international students, veterans, students with disabilities).
Excellent time management and organization skills.
Excellent public speaking/presentation skills.
Experience with community programming.
Experience with Titanium software preferred.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.
Strong interpersonal skills, including a team orientation
Strong supervisory/leadership skills.
Ability to quickly build rapport.
Flexible and calm under pressure.
