Dept Marketing Statement The Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization of the Business and Administrative Services division at UC Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services and facilities, employee housing and capital planning, business and financial analysis, dining services, conference services, early education services, and the Bay Tree Bookstore and ID card services. Through these units educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents. CHES provides on-campus housing and dining services to nearly 9,500 undergraduate and graduate students in ten residential colleges and six multi-college affiliated residential communities which support single students with families.
Under the general supervision of the the Associate Director, Student Conduct (ADSC), the Coordinator of Conduct and Education (CCE), serves as a member of the student life team. The Coordinator of Conduct and Education is responsible for community building; jurisprudence, policy enforcement, advising, and conflict mediation; sister college-wide program development in selected areas (i.e., Alcohol and other Drugs, Health and Wellness, Mental Health, etc.) and special projects. Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

JOB DUTIES 70% - Student Conduct and Advising
Applies principles of student development theory, restorative justice, and educational philosophy in the implementation of the student conduct curriculum as well as the training of university conduct officers and student staff.
Reviews, assigns, processes, and maintains records for assigned caseload of alleged university and residential policy violations including more complex cases; ensures due process, develops resolutions, and assigns sanctions.
Advises students and makes referrals to appropriate on- and off-campus resources.
Oversees case management for assigned area and cross-college cases, including functional supervision of conduct officers in administration of the conduct process ensuring accuracy, consistency, and student rights.
Generates conduct-related customized reports and analyses; coordinates with staff to develop and implement programs and initiatives to address concerns.
Serves as the subject matter expert for student conduct officers.
Provides onboarding, annual, and ongoing training to campus conduct officers and live-in student staff on student conduct, policy enforcement, and conflict resolution.
Analyzes incidents in Advocate and on-call reports to identify policy violation trends and collaborate with student life staff and other campus partners (e.g., UCSC Police Department, Student Health Outreach and Promotion (SHOP) program, etc.) to develop appropriate responses.
Collaborates with the restorative justice coordinator to deliver trainings, facilitate peer mediations, make referrals, and assign sanctions based on student development philosophy.
15% - Co-Curricular Program Development & Administration
Facilitates Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention in College Students (BASICS) sessions.
Develops and implements a comprehensive curriculum for conduct education including the delivery of workshops and initiatives to provide proactive education around student rights and responsibilities.
Supports the implementation of the residential curriculum in collaboration with the student life staff.
10% - Hearing Coordination
Coordinates university hearings such as Title IX Appeal Board and formal hearings in collaboration with CHES conduct office and the Dean of Students office.
Identifies, supports, and advises hearing board members, ensuring compliance with timelines, processes, policies, etc.
Proactively advises students of their rights and responsibilities, including the interpretation of policies and procedures.
Impartially enforces hearing procedures and facilitates communication between parties, ensuring due process and neutrality throughout the hearing and appeal process.
5% - Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned
Serves on department and/or campus-wide committees and attends meetings as assigned.
Provides support for special projects, and performs other duties as assigned based on college/unit, department, and university needs.
Regularly participates in ongoing professional development opportunities including workshops, conferences, and webinars. Reviews relevant literature to remain current on emerging trends and issues in higher education.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience / training.
Professional experience with student conduct administration including interpreting policies and procedures or equivalent experience in a related field.
General theoretical knowledge base in the areas of student development theory, community development theory, program development theory, educational theory, leadership development theory, cross-cultural communications, judicial systems and group development.
Assessment and conflict mediation skills sufficient to elicit, understand, and summarize individual and group concerns.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills sufficient to facilitate successful interactions with large groups, families, the public, and other professionals.
Excellent organizational skills. Substantial related administrative and record keeping experience.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a diverse and multicultural setting.
Ability to work effectively as part of several teams.
Ability to work independently, set priorities, meet deadlines, and make decisions under pressure.
Demonstrated ability to handle crisis situations involving student welfare and safety.
Strong computer skills with emphasis on database management, report development, as well as basic familiarity with standard office software.
Advanced degree or equivalent knowledge in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration or related field.
Professional affiliation with professional organizations such as Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA), ACPA-College Student Educators International, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), Association of College and University Housing Officers International (ACUHO-I), etc.
