The Advisor in Student Central provides student support services related to financial aid for new and returning students. Advisors may also assist with and/or connect students to resources for academic advising, admissions, and registration. Advisors assist students with identifying resources needed to address individual circumstances and potential barriers in enrolling at the College. Advisors work closely with Financial Aid, Enrollment Services Operations, other Student Central staff members, and colleagues across the College to coordinate additional services according to the needs of the students to which they provide assistance.
Explains the application, admission, enrollment, and financial aid processes, including dependency appeals, special circumstances, homelessness, federal loans, private loans, and academic standards. Processes dependency overrides. Share resources available for students relating to dependency needs. Provides information on programs of study and next steps for enrollment, including admission criteria, documents needed, financial aid, new student orientation, placement testing, advising, course selection, registration. Guides students through unusual enrollment, including paperwork processing, verifying qualifiers, and approving or denying UEH appeals. Facilitate presentations to students inclusive of FAFSA, HCOP, orientation, high school, and community presentations. Assist students in the Student Central Lab. Provides advising support to students, transients, ESL, and Undecided students. Assists special student populations such as veterans, scholar network, human tariffing victims, homeless students, and domestic violence survivors. Advises students on academic pathway tracks, course selection, prerequisites, and offering remotely, in person, via phone, e-mail, chat or other delivery formats as needed.
Provides direct student and applicant service, counseling students in person and over the phone. Assists business partners from other College departments such as Financial Aid with paperwork and tasks to address student needs. Respond to email inquiries inclusive of SAP, Financial Aid and normal work email account; send emails to students relating to appeal decisions and or follow up on additional items needed to make the decision.
Completes and maintains required documentation; Keeps accurate records. Reviews and verifies and, where applicable completes dependency overrides, and special circumstance professional judgments, determines decision for SAP appeals, conducts UEH reviews, and completes other processes. Maintains confidentiality of student files and other sensitive subject matter. Collects and maintains student contact for reporting purposes.

Bachelor's Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Guidance, or closely related field. Three (3) years progressively responsible experience in student advising. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
Columbus State Community College has been meeting the diverse educational needs of the Central Ohio community for more than 50 years. The college is proud to be an important contributor to the growth and progress of the region and to serve as the front door to higher education in Central Ohio. From the first graduating class in 1965 through this year, 50,000 students have earned associate degrees in 50-plus technical fields and academic transfer programs. Columbus State also offers Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs whose coursework fulfills the freshman and sophomore year requirements for bachelor’s degree programs offered by four-year colleges and universities throughout the state. Specific transfer agreements with more than 40 colleges and universities are in place at Columbus State, and new direct-to degree partnership programs are being developed all the time. Columbus State now has two campuses serving Central Ohio educational needs. The Columbus Campus is located on 85 acres in downtown Columbus. The 108-acre, full-service Delaware Campus welcomed its first students in 2010. Additionally, Columbus State offers classes at nine convenient regional learning centers throughout Central Ohio.
