Provide visionary, strategic, innovative, and flexible leadership for the Residence Life team in providing student development for all residential students through intentional programming, mentoring and implementation of Vanguard's 4-year discipleship plan learning outcomes within Residence Life.
Develop and implement the process for recruiting, training, and evaluating Resident Assistants.
Oversee all operational elements of the Residence Life, Housing, and Student Care & Conduct offices.
Oversee all aspects of the student conduct process for both undergraduate residential and commuter students in collaboration with the Student Services Coordinator and Resident Directors. The ADRL directly manages more serious conduct violations and collaborates with the Dean of Students on conduct appeals.
Develop an environment of meaningful connections for students which promotes academic success, high student satisfaction, and student engagement, persistence, success, and degree completion.
Cultivate strong partnerships with the Office of Student Engagement, Athletics Department, Spiritual Formation Department, Counseling, Health and Wellness, Diversity and Inclusion, Facility Services, Food Services, Academic Resources, Student Success, and Campus Safety offices.
Create an inclusive environment that promotes the success and persistence of students from all diverse backgrounds.
Direct all departmental operations and formulate and recommend policies pertaining to residence life, housing, student conduct and care, and Title IX to the VPSACO including annual revisions to Residence Life manuals and the Student Handbook to accurately describe current policy and procedures.
Provide direct supervision for the Assistant Directors of Housing and Residence Life, Commuter Life Director, Resident Directors, and the Student Services Coordinator.
Evaluate, implement, and manage assigned university budgets including residence life, housing revenue, expenses, and projections, and other assigned budgets.
Conduct departmental qualitative and quantitative evaluations and assessments of learning to ensure excellent service, educational effectiveness, and progress on student learning outcomes.
Plan and coordinate professional development and training opportunities for Residence Life staff and Resident Assistants in topics including crisis management, student care, student mentoring, program development and identifying the needs of various student groups.
Develop and implement robust emergency response protocols and programs for the residence facilities in conjunction with the Director of Campus Public Safety and the Director of the Counseling Center.
Coordinate the daily duty and on-call schedule for Residence Life staff.
Develop and implement creative and redemption sanctions for students in the conduct process.
The ADRL or designee serves on the following university committees: Safety Committee, Risk Management Committee, Title IX Committee, Student Success and Retention Committee, and chairs the Student CARE Committee.
Serve as a Title IX investigator or Deputy as assigned by the Title IX Coordinator.
Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, leadership, student development, counseling, or a related field Doctorate preferred.
Ten years of progressively responsible experience in a Student Affairs and/or Residential Life setting.
Strong Christian faith with an ability to integrate student development theories into their work. An openly committed Christian who agrees with the Christian mission of the University, including openness to its charismatic emphasis, with a strong record of cultivating Christ-centered growth and maturity.
Direct supervisory experience of professional staff required.
Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and fiscal management.
Knowledge of best practices in university housing and residential life programs and general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management.
Proficiency in planning and assessment of programs and activities.
Experience with student conduct administration.
Knowledge of student development and student learning theories.
Experience serving as a Title IX investigator or Deputy.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required with an ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
Ability to work closely with faculty, staff and students and collaborate on strategic and program objectives.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and uphold confidentiality, effectively manage emergencies, and respond diplomatically to complaints or issues.
Demonstrated competence in relational, interactive, helping, and confrontational skills; and ability to teach in both formal and informal settings.
Strong organizational skills with an ability to develop and utilize schedules, organize time, supervise staff, manage a residence facility, and provide leadership for a project from the beginning through completion.
Practical understanding of the varying developmental needs of college students in community settings and a strong commitment to developing diverse and redemptive communities.
