The Indigenous Center is a part of the larger Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion. The Center supports the co-curricular learning and engagement of undergraduate and graduate students in the Schools of Arts, Sciences and Engineering including the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA @Tufts). The Center works intentionally with all of the identity-based Centers on cultural identity development, community engagement, leadership development; partners intentional with departments across the university and faculty to support student community engagement and belonging and amplify the voices of our students to collectively advocate for and equitable University culture and community.
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions recruits potential applicants and selects students for the School of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. The Admissions team embraces the mission of the university and the goals of the undergraduate admissions office which include attracting and enrolling a diverse cohort of first year and transfer students via a robust recruitment and enrollment initiatives plan that has equity and inclusion as its guiding principle.
Under limited supervision, the Associate Director, Indigenous Center & Admissions applies subject matter expertise to develop, implement, supervise and evaluate quality programs on issues related to multiple intersecting identities (i.e., gender, class, disability, sexual orientation, citizenship/nationality). In addition, this position writes grants and seeks funding sources for center programs and initiatives and conducts needs assessments. The Associate Director works closely with and represents the center with student-facing resources and departments including other identity-based resources, residential life and learning, the CARE office, faculty, and the departments within and beyond the division. Responsible for overseeing assigned center projects. The Associate Director, Admissions contributes to an Admissions team responsible for recruiting and selecting students and for fulfilling the enrollment objectives set by the Deans for the schools. Contributes to a portfolio-based team that generates ideas and solutions which support portfolios such as communications, access and diversity, recruitment events, and others. The Associate Director reads and evaluates applications for admission as part of a reading team using Committee Based Evaluation and serves on selection committee; conducts group information sessions for prospective students and represents the university to schools and community-based organizations.
Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Superb judgment, demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and oral and written communication skills;
5+ years relevant experience in student services and admissions
Deep understanding of how social identities will impact the experience of college students; strong background in understanding issues impacting the experience of students historically underrepresented at Tufts, particularly Native and Indigenous communities; and an awareness of various models for identity-based resource centers.
Demonstrated sensitivity, imagination, and effectiveness in developing educational and community programs; facility in designing programs and resources that consider cultural constructions of race as it intersects with gender, class, ethnicity, sexual identity, religion, and ability.
Proficiency with CRM management software and Microsoft office suite.
Strong public speaking and presentation skills
Valid US Driver's license
Master's degree preferred with 2-3 years related experience
Experience working within a selective university or liberal arts college environment
