The Tufts Career Center provides comprehensive career development assistance to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni from Arts, Sciences and Engineering, and the SMFA at Tufts. We provide individual career advising, drop-in hours, online resources, workshops, graduate school advising, career and internship fairs, networking and presentations with alumni and employers, job and internship search assistance including online listings. We strive to foster transformational experiences that shape the professional, academic, and personal development of Tufts students and alumni. The Assistant Director, Government and International Affairs will provide career advising to undergraduates and recent alumni interested in any aspect of Government or International Affairs and Policy. They will also work with students on all phases of career readiness, including, but not limited to: identifying and articulating career interests/competencies/values, choosing majors or programs of study; developing networking skills, employing internship and job search strategies; and graduate school planning. The Assistant Director will organize speakers, expert panels, skill building workshops, site visits, and other innovative events to enhance the understanding of and readiness for positions in the same areas of government, international affairs, and policy. S/he/they will engage key internal and external constituents, including faculty, parents/families, alumni, and prospective employers to build support for career services. In addition, the Assistant Director will collaborate with the Career Center's Employer Relations Team to identify and cultivate relationships with organizations that have the potential to hire students interested in the fields of government, international affairs, and policy.
Bachelor's Degree with 5 years experience required, Master's Degree with 3 years experience in career development preferred.
The ideal candidate will have worked with Liberal Arts students and have specialized knowledge in at least one of the following: government, international affairs, or policy from either advising students for 2-3 years or having worked in the field for at least that long.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated skill in reviewing application materials, mock interviews, and networking.
Demonstrated event and project management, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to find innovative ways to deliver tailored information to specific audiences.
Ability to provide career and job search coaching to students.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience working with and advising diverse student population at a liberal arts college.
Ability to work with hiring managers, faculty, and students.
Familiarity with Handshake.
Experience with blogging and other social media.
