The Mental Health Counselor position is a full-time, 10-month position to start Fall Semester 2021 or as soon as possible. Responsibilities include intake and assessment, individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, consultation and referral, training and educational program development and delivery. The successful candidate will complement a strong relationship-focused team of professionals committed to the psychological needs and development of both undergraduate and graduate-level students and to providing leadership to the campus community with regards to mental health issues. Qualifications: We welcome applicants with a minimum of an earned master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, or a closely related field (MA, MSW, MFT) with licensure or licensure-eligibility as a mental health provider in New York State. Preferred qualifications include: LCSW credential, LMHC, or earned doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology (PsyD or PhD) or a related field; APA approved program and internship for Psychologists is strongly preferred. Two to five years post-master’s/ post doctorate degree experience in a college counseling setting or with young adults in a clinical setting strongly preferred. Post-doctoral supervision for licensure can be provided. Eligible doctoral candidates must be licensed within 2 years of hiring date. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience working with issues related to gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio-economic status, etc. and skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds; demonstrated history of positive working relationships and collaborative style, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; and experience in providing service through outreach activities, program development, and committee involvement are required. Demonstrated clinical skills with continuing interest in professional development around current practices and trends; strong generalist with experience with common presenting concerns of college students, and experience and interest in providing group therapy preferred; demonstrated interest, expertise, and commitment to working with students from historically marginalized groups through culturally-responsive therapy and programming strongly preferred. Familiarity with the Stepped Care 2.0 Model of Intervention a plus, and experience with formalized Suicide Assessment protocols preferred.

The Ithaca College Center for Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS): The Ithaca College Center for Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) promotes and fosters the academic, personal, and interpersonal development of Ithaca College students by providing group counseling, short-term individual, and relationship counseling, crisis intervention, consultation for faculty, staff, parents, and students, and educational programs to the campus community. CAPS is an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life and is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc. Counseling, Health and Wellness is the administrative home to CAPS, a robust health center, and Health Promotion services. Mental health counselors at CAPS engage with a multidisciplinary department staff that consists of psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and medical and educational professionals to facilitate successful treatment and personal outcomes. Professional development funds are available as well as on-going opportunities to participate in CAPS case conference/development meetings, team supervision, co-facilitation and peer supervision of groups and individual supervision.
