The Fitness and Wellness Technician Senior is responsible for the oversight of fitness and wellness programs and services for MCC’s Red Mountain Fitness Center. This position will serve as lead worker and monitor student staff and the growth of the MCC student employee development model. This position will establish an inclusive environment for all participants and ensure programs and services are operating efficiently, effectively, and safely. The Fitness and Wellness Technician Senior will support the goals of the department, college campus, and the community.
30%: Oversees the facility and operations of MCC’s Red Mountain Fitness Centers; performs administrative duties related to academic classes and fitness and wellness programs and activities; coordinates and oversees the facility schedule, daily activities, and special events; assists with the vision and growth of the student development and employment model for the department that aligns with industry best practices
30%: Provides day-to-day leadership of group fitness, personal training, and other fitness and wellness services and programming; assists with the recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and monitoring of student employee/intern performance; serves as a personal trainer and/or teaches group fitness classes as needed; facilitates regularly scheduled meetings for staff and student employees/interns and provides regular and ongoing professional development
20% Tracks program participation data, programming, and operating expenses; assists in the development, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and operation protocols to ensure safe and well-managed facilities; assists in ensuring compliance with risk management protocols; maintains inventory of all fitness equipment; tracks equipment usage, preventative maintenance and repair of fitness equipment, and assists in the implementation of a system for replacement
15%: Implements and evaluates fitness and wellness programming in alignment with the needs of the campus and surrounding community; assists in the development of marketing campaigns to promote a healthy lifestyle and/or participation in MCC’s fitness and wellness programming; assists in the creation of marketing strategies, use of social media, creation of webinars or virtual engagement opportunities, and other marketing needs; works collaboratively with various college and district departments/divisions to support campus-wide and/or district-wide initiatives
5% Performs other duties as assigned
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by training and/or coursework in exercise physiology, physical fitness or related field and two full-time equivalent years of experience performing fitness assessments, developing workout prescriptions and/or circuit training.
A. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in exercise science, recreation management, kinesiology, business, or directly related field
B. Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience monitoring staff, and/or student employees, preferably in fitness, recreation, or similar environment.
C. Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience assisting in the development of staff, and/or student employees (e.g. assisting in onboarding, training, scheduling, evaluating, and/or mentoring).
D. Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience coordinating and/or directing, tracking, evaluating and assessing programming related to group fitness, personal training, senior fitness (e.g. silver sneakers, active fit), wellness education, and/or mind/body development
E. Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in fitness training and services for group fitness, personal training, small group training, etc.
F. Experience assisting in the creation and implementation of marketing for programs and events.
G. Experience managing fitness equipment, inventory, and supplies.
H. Nationally recognized certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NASM) in group fitness, personal training and/or specialized group fitness/small group training.
