The Student Success Specialist (SSS) acts as the direct support liaison for students within the Dunham College of Business, including working with a population of at-risk students, academically advising first-year students, and participating in recruiting events. The SSS will develop and maintain a relationship with the Dean of DCOB and invest in the extracurricular activities of the College.
• Perform interventions, tracks, and creates maps to success for academically at-risk students • Collect data on at-risk students and offer support services • Academically advise all first-year students within Dunham College of Business and partners with faculty to improve advising processes for all students within that academic unit • Build awareness of university-based services (e.g. advising, career services, campus recreation, student organizations, tutoring) to promote holistic student development • Promote and engage with career fairs and career development for the Dunham College of Business • Secondary report to Dean of the Dunham College of Business (supplemental annual evaluation) • Assist the Dean (or designate) of Dunham College of Business in developing and implementing retention and early intervention programs for students • Participate in recruiting events for the College, possibly including coordinating outreach activities with high schools and meeting with potential students and parents • Assist the Dean (or designate) in developing a summer enrichment program for students transitioning from high school to university, included in Summer Launch or separate from it • Participate and lead in planning and implementation of Summer Launch program, including active involvement during the week of the program • Oversee web site material for college undergraduate programs (with permission from Dean of College) • Facilitate collection of assessment data related to recruitment and retention • Represent at Pre-Registration and GO events • Aid in social, academic, and spiritual integration to support student engagement and success • Contribute to students’ discipleship and spiritual growth as key component of student success and development • Perform other duties as assigned
• Commitment to the ministry and mission of Houston Baptist University • Ability and willingness to disciple students and foster spiritual growth • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (preferably in a field of study within the curriculum of the Dunham College of Business) • Availability to work some weekends or evenings on a limited basis
