This is a full-time staff position within the Student Life Department (Student Affairs Division) that is responsible for promoting student success through relational, restorative, and discipleship-oriented student conduct interventions and through facilitating effective student governance initiatives within the HBU community.
Adjudicate student conduct and grievance reports sent through the Advocate system; help assign care report connections
Serve as the University liaison for the Advocate system, including keeping track of updates, available trainings, usage, reporting, and integrations with other student success platforms
Work closely with the Gideon Institute Counseling Center, Testing & Student Accommodation Services Department, Title IX Coordinator, and Deputy Officers through the student conduct process as needed
Recruit, hire, train, disciple, and supervise the Student Conduct Board (a group of students who hear specific student conduct and behavioral cases)
Serve as the staff advisor for the Student Government Association (SGA); directly disciple SGA Executive Board
Direct, train, and support student workers and other contract and/or professional staff at HBU regarding the student conduct processes and expectations
Assist with updating and maintaining the HBU Student Handbook and Code of Conduct
Assist with developing and maintaining the Student Leadership Institute
Assist with planning and implementing Student Life signature events: Welcome Days, Family Weekend, Homecoming, etc.
Represent Student Life at University events
Meet on a regular basis with the Director of Student Life
Work in collaboration with Student Affairs Division goals and initiatives to assess, plan, and promote campus-wide engagement, student success, retention/persistence, and graduation
Assist with maintaining Student Life social media and marketing
Participate in the life of the campus through partnering with other Student Affairs and University departments as position requires
Perform other duties as assigned
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college is required; a Master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Christian Education, or closely related field is strongly preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
Experience working with university students, including those with at-risk indicators
Understand student development theory specifically in relation to student conduct
Commitment to the mission of Houston Baptist University
Be available for night and weekend programming
Exhibit an active Christian faith
