About the Opportunity: The Director will oversee the operations and strategic planning of Off-Campus Housing and Support Services, which supports Northeastern University learners living off campus or beyond Boston while in class, on co-op, and/or participating in co-curricular beyond Boston experiences. The Director is responsible for the creation of a comprehensive set of services, resources and programs for learners off campus and beyond Boston, including advising services, educational programming, and crisis management assistance.
Responsibilities: Services and Resources- The Director will lead the department in providing support services and resources for Northeastern learners by assisting in their housing search locally, domestically and abroad, as well as the management of off-campus housing opportunities and partnerships in highly populated student areas beyond Boston. This includes the management of university leases outside of Boston and fostering relationships with realtors and landlords. The department will provide lease review services, advising support of tenant rights and responsibilities, and resources. These services and resources are intended to help learners successfully manage their personalized off-campus Northeastern experiences. The Director will maintain a direct focus on the effective delivery of student services and resources to foster learner growth, satisfaction, retention and eventual alumni involvement.
Programs- The Director is responsible for creating a comprehensive set of programs that provide expertise in housing, education on tenant rights and responsibilities, building and maintaining a sense of community, and creating a network wherever they are learning. Educational efforts will include topics on housing in Boston and beyond, rights and responsibilities, and knowledge of off-campus living. Programming efforts will enhance learners' experience living off-campus or beyond Boston, keep learners connected to their peers and Northeastern on-site programs, provide opportunities to personalize networks across boundaries through alumni engagement and networking, facilitate community and civic engagement opportunities, and create smooth transition opportunities as learners move in and out of experiences. Programs such as bloggers, instagrammers, networking opportunities and community service support these efforts.
The Director will report to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Operations. The Director will collaborate with the offices of Student Affairs, Housing, Alumni Relations, Employer Engagement and Career Design, the Business Office, City and Community Engagement, Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution and other University departments to support all learners wherever they may be. The Director will align and create a vision for new initiatives, as well as provide leadership and direction to support, strengthen, and grow off-campus and beyond Boston learner communities, experiential opportunities, and personalized networks. Goals based on new initiatives will be created annually by the Director.
Qualifications: Provide the minimum education, experience, and skills required to perform the job successfully. - Master's degree in Higher Education or related field. - 6-8 years work experience in student affairs, community affairs or related field. - Experience in managing professional and student staff. - Strong customer service focus, communication, writing skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively. - Experience in developing and implementing programs and managing volunteers. - Experience in contract negotiations preferred. - Budget and operations management required. - Comprehensive understanding of student development research and theories. - Experience working in a diverse, fast-paced, student-centered service environment. - Well-developed interpersonal and presentation skills. - Innovative problem-solving ability. - Background in developing community/campus relationships and external partnerships. Must have ability to strengthen town-gown relationships while serving as an advocate for students within the community. - Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and work positively and productively with parents, faculty, staff and community members. - Good working knowledge of MS Office programs. - Willingness to travel.
