The Staff Attorney II is a Kentucky licensed attorney in good standing with Kentucky Bar Association. The Staff Attorney II assumes more independent responsibility for managing legal matters dealing with Higher Education laws, specifically issues surrounding financial aid, student services, academic program requirements, civil rights, disability services, and Title IX requirements. The Staff Attorney II has some knowledge of employment law, including Title VII, and will assist in employment investigations.
Research and analysis of Higher Education law including Title IX, Title IV, Title VI, and all other ancillary laws affecting Higher Education such as ADA
Research, analysis, and drafting white papers on legal matters affecting the 16 colleges in the KCTCS. Memoranda should be well researched, factually and legally sound, and grounded in a firm knowledge of state and federal law.
Provides assistance of both a practical and legal nature for employment and student investigations, determining legal liability issues that affect the institution and its colleges; works closely with the Director of General Counsel Constituent Services and the Director of Organizational Integrity to timely investigate complaints and draft reports of investigation.
Drafts, reviews, and revises contracts, MOAs, MOUs, and other contractual documents; assists more experienced attorneys in contract negotiation and contract disputes; updates all templates and maintains compliance with contract law.
Shadows and assists more experienced attorneys in fulfilling all legal needs of the various Cabinet Areas – Technology Solutions, Administrative Services, Student Services, Advancement, and the Chancellor's Area.
Assumes committee assignments and assists with special projects that further the legal office mission as well as the goals, vision, and mission of the KCTCS. Performs other duties as assigned.
Juris Doctor and two (2) years relevant experience or equivalent.
Admission to Kentucky Bar Association and in good standing with the Bar
Juris Doctor and four (4) years relevant experience or equivalent.
KY law requires state and national pre-employment background checks as a condition of employment.
