We are looking for a skilled Senior Designer who will take a key role in the Media & Technology Innovation / Academic Software Development team responding to the growing needs of our institution stakeholders in improving the student experience, production of software for grant-funded projects, web and mobile applications, and software projects with research faculty. You will be working alongside other engineers, developers, and product stakeholders on a variety of projects in collaboration with the schools, units, and departments across the institution. You will directly collaborate with top-researchers in grant-funded projects across various domain areas and deliver high-quality creative solutions.
Job Summary The Senior Designer participates as technical expert in gathering requirements, generating wireframes, mockups, and full design documents, development, coding, testing, and/or debugging of major new software and/or significant enhancements to existing software which may include applications over multiple platforms. This role guides and advises junior staff and student developers/designers. This position manages complex projects independently and assists in estimating and planning for future development work. You will be working alongside other engineers, developers, and product stakeholders on a variety of projects in collaboration with the schools, units, and departments across the institution. You will directly collaborate with top-researchers in grant-funded projects across various domain areas and deliver high-quality creative solutions.

Roles & Responsibilities
Design and implement responsive web sites and apps
Create custom user experiences, produce wireframes, mockups, and full designs.
Implement the designs in using web technologies.
Ensure best practices on responsive web design and accessibility standards across all products.
Work with peer developers, students, and partners across the institution to develop innovative solutions.
Work in an agile environment, provide code documentation, excel at collaboration and teamwork, do effective cost/benefit analysis, evaluate resources, assist in writing project proposals, and project charters.
Troubleshoot and support content management systems (WordPress based).
Assist in the preparation internal and external presentations.
Other tasks as assigned.
Experience with graphic design, designing UI/UX, user-centric design for web and mobile applications
Experience designing experiences based on commonly used Human-Computer Interaction and User-centered design aspects.
Experience leading sessions on design iteration and usability testing.
Critical thinking, data modeling, debugging, metadata creation and management, problem solving, use-case analysis.
Four years relevant experience required.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Experience implementing designs using web technologies in HTML5, CSS3, and JS. Familiarity of web frameworks is a plus (e.g., Bootstrap, Vue, React)
Experience managing Content Management Systems (WordPress) at scale (1000+s of users and sites)
Familiarity with backend technologies PHP, NodeJS.
Graduate level degree or similar experience in interactive and web/mobile technologies, Human-Computer Interaction, or User-centered Design.
Interest in exploring emerging technologies: e.g.: mixed and augmented reality and virtual reality.
