Léman Manhattan Preparatory School is seeking a College Counseling Coordinator for the 2021/22SY! The College Counseling Coordinator role oversees the office of college counseling in 1) providing oversight for the mission, vision and daily operations of the college counseling office, 2) providing guidance to grades 6-12 students and parents through all facets of college search and selection, and 3) working closely as a team member with other counselors, grade level leaders, faculty, the school psychologist and administrators. The College Counseling Coordinator reports to the Head of High School.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
Coordinate the work of college counselors and any associated administrative staff in the daily operations of the college counseling office, and set the direction, goals, metrics and accountability for college counselors and staff in collaboration with the upper school head.
Serve as a point person for inter-departmental communications regarding the college counseling process.
Oversee the implementation of all aspects of the college counseling and application process in the upper school advisory program in collaboration with the upper school assistant head.
Oversee the execution of all standardized tests administered in house (e.g. PSATs) and the development and long-term implementation of a Test Prep Program (comprehensive of PSATs and SATs), to include data analysis, communication with students and families, collaborating with appropriate members of Léman Manhattan faculty and staff, and overseeing the provision of test prep courses on campus by outside organizations.
Track and increase the number of top tier college applications and the number of ED applications as relates to the overall goals of the college counseling office and the vision of the school.
Oversee the completion, implementation, translation (e.g. Mandarin and more) and continual updating of a Guide to College Counseling at Léman Manhattan.
Supervise the implementation of targeted and specialized college counseling services for international families and expand the options for Léman Manhattan students in universities abroad.
Develop systems and maintain database for connections to colleges and universities, including connections provided by parents and Léman Manhattan alumni.
Provide students and parents with advice appropriate for each grade level, individually helping them explore interests and identify college or university communities that match the students’ talents and aspirations.
In collaboration with the student services teams, is active in the development, coordination, and delivery of effective educational programs for students, faculty, staff, and families relating to issues of adolescent development, and emotional and behavioral health; Increases counselor visibility, familiarity, and trust with students; gets to know the students and their families; becomes a presence in the school community.
Advanced counseling degree (e.g., MSW, LMHC, PhD)
5+ years’ successful experience working with adolescents ages 12-18 and their families in a counseling capacity
5+ years’ experience in an international educational setting preferred
Proven success developing and implementing programs using data analysis and in response to the needs of an organization
Proven success leading, building and supervising collaborative teams in a counseling and/or educational setting
Excellent customer service/interpersonal skills
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to problem-solve complex student issues with professionalism and discretion
