This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week.
The Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life prepares Tufts students to become active citizens and community leaders. As the only university-wide college of its kind, Tisch College is a national leader in civic education, whose model and research are setting the standard for higher education's role in civic engagement. Its mission is to engage students in meaningful community building, public service experiences and transformational learning.
The position reflects a partnership between the Tisch College of Civic Life and the Tufts University School of Medicine. The direct supervisor will be the Health Sciences Civic Life Manager, and the position will be physically based at the School of Medicine to work closely with the Office of Educational Affairs. The Office of Educational Affairs (OEA) is primarily responsible for medical school academic programs, curriculum design and development, system-wide evaluation, and faculty development.
The Civic Life Coordinator will provide advanced support and coordination, implementation, and evaluation for the Community Service Learning (CSL) Civic Life programming for the MD program at the School of Medicine. This position will consist of coordinating the (CSL) program to successfully engage all MD students in completing their 50 hour CSL curricular requirement in partnership with our community partners. This includes: coordinating the CSL administrative systems to help track students to the completion of the requirement; organizing and maintaining files and databases; designing and updating applications or other forms; coordinating logistics for meetings and events; maintaining relationships with existing Community Partners (CSL sites) and developing new partners; coordinating the recruitment of faculty and student mentors; developing opportunities for continued learning, leadership development, and reflection; program assessment; meeting regularly with the CSL Course Co-Directors, the Office of Educational Affairs and the CSL Steering Committee; coordinating the Med School Honos Civicus Society and Tisch Summer Fellows; collaborating productively with other departments at the school and university focused on community-engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion work; and, serving as a resource for students and faculty engaged in the CSL program.
Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of experience.
Experience with service learning, civic engagement, and/or community service.
Passion for working with students.
Excellent communications skills.
Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience in a health-related field, preferably combined with civic engagement.
Interest in addressing health disparities and promoting health justice.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently.
Experience working with students.
Familiarity with community organizations, nonprofits, K-12 educational settings.
Comfort with balancing a range of responsibilities that involve interpersonal and administrative work.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Mostly a standard work schedule except for occasional special events, ideally some travel to community partner sites (Boston and maybe Maine).
