The purpose of the Director of Counseling Services is to provide and oversee mental health counseling services to a diverse group of students at NUNM. This is accomplished by developing, implementing and evaluating the internship program for non-NUNM graduate students as well as direct supervision and evaluation of Counseling Center licensed mental health counselors and graduate-level interns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Oversight of the Counseling Center day-to-day operations.
Develop policies and procedures for effective delivery of services and education of future mental health practitioners.
Participate in the Crisis Assessment and REsponse Team (CARE) meetings.
Serve as a liaison with faculty, administration, staff and community resources for students.
Participate in activities and committees of the division, department and college that includes student orientation and commencement.
Prepare and maintain reports by term to show success, progress, utilization, and placement of internship students and peer counselors.
Partner with The office of Equity and Inclusion in providing cultural competency trainings and events for faculty, staff and students.
Hire, train, manage and evaluate professional mental health counselors engaged in providing educational and mental health guidance for students
Direct counseling supervision of internship students as required by the contractual agreement signed by NUNM and the home-college or university
Conducts in-service training and professional development for professional and student staff
Develop and supervise the counseling internship program.
Provide crisis intervention, ongoing monitoring and assessment of students
Provide individual counseling, group counseling and crisis counseling to students.
Provide psychosocial evaluations on students as needed.
Develop and deliver workshops, programs and seminars to aid in the retention of students the including mental health issues and life management skills.
Doctoral degree in counseling , clinical psychology or social work from an accredited college required and five years’ experience performing counseling functions (with 2 years in a diverse population in a college counseling setting and 2 years of supervisory experience) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Capacity to function independently in a senior level management position that holds ultimate responsibility for client welfare.
