The Department of Nutritional Sciences & Toxicology (NST) is part of the Rausser College of Natural Resources and the Agricultural Experimental Station and is governed by a Chair. The department focuses on the metabolic biology of nutrients and toxicants in relation to human health and disease.
Our scholarly efforts emphasize:
Interdisciplinary research in nutrition and toxicology focused on metabolic, physiological and genetic influences on health
Teaching fundamentals of nutrition and toxicology to the campus and extended communities
Preparing undergraduate and graduate students to achieve excellence in academic and private sector research and for professional careers related to nutrition and toxicology
Translating knowledge developed through basic research to improve health, by offering a pre- and professional degree in dietetics, achieving outreach through cooperative extension, and by integrating basic research with health-related programs, including intervention research
Works with the department chair and faculty to manage, plan and execute all administrative operations of the Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology (NST) Department.
Supervises the department's Graduate Student Advisor and other departmental staffing; includes performance management if needed.
Functions as the key facilities interface for NST, working in collaboration with the CNR facilities team and campus and external facilities personnel, to maintain and enhance building functionality.
Supports planning and execution of faculty and student events.
Assists department chair and search committees in academic personnel activities in conjunction with analyst in the RCNR Dean's Office, including the recruitment and retention of ladder rank faculty, appraisals, merits, promotions, adjunct faculty, professors in the graduate school, visiting professors, lecturers, specialists, and postdoctoral fellows.
Coordinates non-academic personnel recruitments, hires, separations, etc. in collaboration with the RCNR Dean's Office and Berkeley Regional Services.
Coordinates communications with NST associated Extension Specialists and Cooperative Extension.
Acts as NST's chief liaison to Berkeley Regional Services to maintain good working relations and resolves workflow problems
Coordinates a variety of human resources-related activities, including and ensuring the completion of forms and documents related to HR and Payroll for the department.
Develops and implements procedures for supply inventory and works with facilities to keep all equipment in good working condition.
Coordinates use of departmental resources, e.g., shared space and equipment, as determined by the chair and the executive committee.
Works with chair to coordinate departmental meetings and events as well as support for procedures related to academic appointments, merits, and promotions.
Works with the NST Dietetics Director to maintain national accreditation for the Dietetics program. Supports the evolution and future state of the program.
Serves as unit resource to advise and facilitate faculty and student interface with the Dean's Office, Berkeley Regional Services and central administrative units to accomplish departmental goals.
Represents the department and serves on College and University committees.
Projects and monitors departmental budget and endowment. Prepares financial reports, analysis and projections for funding,
Monitors department discretionary funds.
Analyzes spending patterns and advises the Chair on appropriate spending. Anticipates income and provides monthly budget status.
Reviews expenses to comply with any fund restrictions and university policy.
Reviews expenses and monitors balances to prevent overdrafts.
Reviews development and use of the departmental endowment.
Performs studies for resource plans, trends, sources and uses. Recommends and implements revenue generation programs.
Assists chair in the acquisition and analysis of data for FTE requests and departmental reviews.
Processes billings for the Dietetics Internship Program.
Reviews funding opportunities from internal and extramural sources, and routes to appropriate faculty.
Ensures department is operating without deficits.
Coordinates with Student Services Advisor on graduate student funding packages for upcoming fiscal year, using block grants, training grants, unit funds and faculty research funding.
Works with the Graduate and Undergraduate Advisors on funding for student awards.
Takes lead on events and special programs planning and delivery, coordinates as needed with RCNR college relations office.
Designs and maintains department website and communications.
Coordinates with Berkeley Regional Services Research Administration team to manage faculty contracts, grants and university funds.
Assists department chair in departmental fundraising and development activities.
Oversees planning for development, alumni relations, and outreach activities in the department.
Coordinates with College Relations Office staff in RCNR to support fundraising and alumni relations programs.
Works with the chair and departmental committees to organize and implement instructional activities.
Prepares and monitors TAS budgets ensuring maximum enrollments and that costs, including fee remissions, remain within the budget's constraints.
Works with Graduate Student Advisors to ensure all aspects of graduate student services including graduate student recruitments and admissions and student financial support.
Coordinates undergraduate affairs with Undergraduate Advisors and course
scheduling staff in the RCNR Office of Instruction and Student Affairs.
Collaborates with the Department Chair, Undergraduate Affairs Committee Chair, Head Graduate Advisors, and other members of the faculty to complete plans for the instructional program
Works on special projects as directed by the Chair.
Thorough knowledge of, or ability to master, University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, account and fund management, personnel management.
Thorough knowledge of, or ability to master, financial analysis and reporting techniques, human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.

Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
