Germanna Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. As a comprehensive community college, Germanna provides quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities for the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
Germanna is seeking to hire a part time Career Advisor/Coach to assist high schools, students and their families as they prepare for career training/education. The Career Advisor (Coach) plans and executes outreach and career/educational planning activities in an assigned area high school for the College. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Development this position identifies and participates in outreach and career planning activities for high school juniors, seniors and parents. The Career Advisor serves as an ambassador for the College and cultivates strong relationships with prospective students, parents, high school personnel and area employers. This position advises and counsels high school students â“ and other student populations, as needed, on post high school graduation goals, specifically exploring the benefits of community college enrollment through in person, via e-mail communication, and phone engagement. This position coordinates on-campus tours and programs targeted towards prospective students, parents. In addition, the position coordinates the ongoing strategic communications to prospective students, as well as maintains a case management system to report outcomes to the VCCS and the College. The position supports Dual Enrollment and Independent Dual Enrollment students to identify and participate in GCC educational opportunities. Career Advisors offer a one-stop service that facilitates a student from application to enrollment in courses at Germanna. This position works closely with departments across the College and organizations within the community.

Masterâ™s degree in counseling, education or closely related area.
Experience in higher education setting
Extensive computer experience with familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software tools
Extensive customer service experience with an ability to handle stressful situations
A valid driverâ™s license with the ability to travel throughout service area
Experience working with high school age adolescents
