Spalding University is seeking a Coordinator: Accessibility and Learning Equity Center to facilitate the development of reading skills and practices and to develop and manage a tutoring program. The person who fills this position will:
Assess student reading skills and develop interventions to support learning through reading comprehension
Obtain intake information from prospective and current students and maintain records of interventions and student interactions.
Teach developmental reading courses to identified students in collaboration with specific University Studies faculty and/or faculty teaching high-risk courses
Provide labs, workshops, and tailored support to develop comprehension learning strategies, including outreach to rising college students via bridge programs
Facilitate individual and small group sessions that assist students in developing general and discipline-specific critical reading skills, annotation, outlining, and close reading skills and strategies for success
Consult with faculty on instructional strategies to foster student learning through reading assignments
Train and supervise peer tutors and manage usage of any contract tutoring services and make adjustments as needed
Collaborate with faculty to embed tutors in high-risk courses and/or provide guided study groups outside of class time.
Provide resources to ESL/ELL students to continue building their reading comprehension skills.
Utilize technology tools to enhance peer support opportunities
Develop assessment plan and assessment cycle for student learning
Serve as part of a dynamic student success team.
Master’s degree or higher in Education, English, Higher Education Administration, Psychology, or similar
Experience teaching reading skills at the college level
Demonstrated history working with students of diverse racial identities and cultures
Ability to have regular contact with faculty, staff, and students on a college campus
Program development skills, including assessment.
This is a full-time position, with regular working hours scheduled Monday-Friday. Evening and weekend hours will sometimes be required. This is a campus-based position, with the possibility of some hybrid work.
