Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Student Programs Coordinator for the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership within Student Centers and Activities. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Involvement and Leadership, the position contributes to the researching, planning and facilitating a broad range of leadership programs and initiatives for students, student organizations leaders, staff, and others outside of the University.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists in the development and coordination of extended orientation leadership programs for new students.
Partners with local community organizations to provide educational training and programming.
Assists in the development and facilitation of leadership courses/curriculums.
Provides advising to student leaders and other student organizations.
Provides supervision to student leaders and interns.
Works closely with Student Centers, Major Events and Programming, the Cultural Collaborative, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, and other departments/units to advance a symbiotic relationship between student organizations and the division.
Plans summer extended orientation retreat programs, works with the first-year iteration of the Leadership Living-Learning Community, provides advisement for assigned student organizations, and plans and implements Alternative Break service immersion experiences.
Helps to recruit, select, train, and evaluate student organization leaders, volunteers and interns.
Supports the office's marketing and assessment strategies, and is responsible for aligning learning outcomes with all curriculum and programmatic initiatives.
Develops collaborative relationships with university units such as Admissions, Academic Units, Undergraduate Education, Deans of Students, Residence Life, and Career Services.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's degree in student affairs, education, or related field
A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in community engagement, service-learning projects, advising, program development, budget oversight, curriculum design, and leadership development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse population and creating inclusive spaces.
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
Ability to organize, analyze, prioritize, and problem-solve within a fast-paced office environment with frequent interruptions.
Demonstrated experience with database-related software and student information systems.
Must be self-directed with the ability to work independently yet have the ability to work collaboratively with other staff as well as members of the Rutgers community.
Previous experience in program planning, oversight and logistics; leadership program training and coordination; excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; the ability to work under stress and handle simultaneous and complex projects.
Marketing skills, familiarity with student learning environments, and training experience are essential.
Willing to represent the university at campus functions, regional meetings, and national conferences. Night and weekend work is required.
Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Proficiency with various technology and learning management platforms (e.g. Google, Canvas, etc.
Ability to work under stress and handle simultaneous and complex projects; the financial expertise to manage and analyze budgets; and must have knowledge of spreadsheets and database applications, presentation design, and publishing applications.
Certifications in a variety of personality assessment tools and team-building activities e.g. Myers Briggs Type Indicator, StrengthsQuest, DiSC Inventory, True Colors, Leadership Practices Inventory, Predictive Index
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to lift moderately heavy items is necessary.
Available to work some nights and weekends; some travel required
