Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director, Outreach and First-Year Transition for the Honors College. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, the Director develops, refines, and implements a comprehensive strategy for recruiting, enrolling and retaining diverse and high achieving students to the Honors College. This requires a comprehensive approach, fully integrating highly directed recruitment efforts as well as dedicated oversight of the critical college transition and first-year experience for new students.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Serves as the primary point of contact for prospective, admitted and enrolling students to the Honors College.
Coordinates with the Admissions office to host supplemental programming to introduce students and families to the Honors College. These events may be on-campus or virtual and could consist of presentations, information sessions, panels, Q&A's, and showcases for students, families, high school counselors.
Engages with college pipeline programs and community-based organizations to recruit and enroll a class reflective of the diversity of New Jersey and the world.
Leads and serves on campus-wide committees as the point person for collaborations with key partners including student affairs, DICE, the honors programs, enrollment management but especially working closely with University Admissions.
In collaboration with University Admissions, develops a comprehensive strategy for recruitment and enrollment programming for high achieving students and to ensure that Honors College efforts are complementary.
Recruits, trains, and advises a diverse group of volunteer student ambassadors to be effective and knowledgeable in assisting to recruit and enroll students to the Honors College.
Oversees a positive transition for 1st year students into the Honors college and ensuring a successful first year.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years of overall professional experience in high school counseling or higher education, preferably enrollment management or student affairs, or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to handle considerable and varied responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Outstanding organization, time-management, multi-tasking, planning, writing, and presentation skills.
Works well individually as well as on a team.
Represents the university enthusiastically, and has the ability to deal with serious and sensitive issues requiring the maintenance of confidentiality and privacy.
Ability to manage both a budget and personnel.
Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Deeply knowledgeable about the mission of the Honors College and the importance of student development as part of the overall mission.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to work flexible hours and travel extensively.
