The School of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell is consistently placed among a handful of leading Operations Research programs worldwide. Cornell's program in Operations Research and Information Engineering is a rigorous program with approximately 225 undergraduates, 90 Master of Engineering students, and 40 Ph.D. students. ORIE focuses on fundamental principles and methods but also uses contextual learning and design experiences to integrate the science with engineering. Our educational approach emphasizes a broad mastery of core disciplinary areas including methods of optimization, applied probability modeling and statistical analysis, manufacturing systems design and operation, and systems analysis and methodology.

Under general direction from the Directors of Graduate Studies, MEng Director, and Director of Administration, the Graduate Field Administrator (GFA) is responsible for the administration and coordination of the M.Eng. and Ph.D. programs for Operations Research and Information Engineering. The position will primarily be responsible for overseeing all academic activities relating to graduate students from initial inquiry, application, recruitment, and matriculation through graduation. Responsibility includes administration of the admissions and selection process; general orientation; administrative advising of students; records administration; preparing and updating information, materials, publications and communications related to graduate programs. Entering, maintaining, updating, analyzing, and reporting on data in related information systems. Coordinate with accounting and payroll representatives for administration of graduate student appointments. Key liaison between Graduate School, Bursar's Office, University Registrar and Engineering Student Services. Represent fields and department to college, university and other constituencies. This position must be available for work commencement weekend.
Bachelor's degree; one to two-years of experience in student services or a related field.

Ability to handle complex and sensitive situations and data.
Ability to use a variety of software applications such as Excel and Filemaker Pro, to manage, analyze, project, and report data.
Ability to counsel and advise both faculty and students on sensitive or confidential topics.
Strong written and oral communication skills required.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, problem solve, and multi-task under tight deadlines.
Master's degree or equivalent with four or more years of experience in student services or a related field.
Previous experience advising students and coordinating multiple large academic programs.
