Mount Michael Benedictine School is a Catholic college preparatory residential/day high school rooted in Benedictine values for young men committed to excellence. Students develop spiritually, intellectually, and socially through the comprehensive curriculum and communal experience to become future leaders.
Mount Michael is seeking both a residential dean and a part-time computer science teacher for the 2021-22 school year. Those jobs may be combined into one position, but we would also consider two separate hires.
Residential deans are men who supervise our students outside the school day, acting in place of the parents to provide academic, social, and spiritual guidance. Mount Michael is primarily a 5-day boarding school for students in the local area, but we have a small population of 7-day students from elsewhere in the country and the rest of the world. We are seeking a residential dean to head our 7-day boarding program. Duties will include:
Communicating with parents of our 7-day boarders
Coordinating transportation for 7-day boarders, including airport trips, weekend testing, doctor visits, etc.
Arranging frequent and meaningful weekend activities for our 7-day boarders
Providing coverage for half of each weekend on campus
Working with the rest of the residential staff, counselors, and administration to address all student needs
Covering some evenings off for our primary class deans
Acquiring a commercial driver's license and school bus permit for student transportation
Other duties, including coaching, may be available for extra pay but are not mandatory.
We are seeking a computer science teacher who is able to teach basic computer applications as an elective to freshmen (one section, one semester), as well as computer science/beginning programming to all sophomores (two sections, both semesters). The curriculum for the computer science class is flexible and could be adapted according to a candidate's abilities/interests. A candidate qualified to teach more advanced computer science classes would be welcome with the possibility of expanding course offerings in the future. A teaching certificate is preferred but not mandatory.
Normal starting salary for deans is $25,000, plus free room and board. This may be adjusted for experience. Health insurance and 401(k) also provided.
Salary for teaching will be pro-rated based on a full-time teacher salary, and will depend on experience.
To apply, please send cover letter and resume to our Head of School, Dr. David Peters, at [email protected]. Questions about the residential dean job may be directed to Dean of Students, Dave Cormier, at [email protected].
