With a focus on social justice and equity, the Case Manager / Staff Psychotherapist maintains high student contact and an ongoing caseload to address the needs of students who have problems in areas such as mental or physical health, finances, discipline, social injustices, and adjustment to college that may affect their academic performance or other aspects of their MassArt experience – using a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow up services. Responsibilities include student contact via regular meetings, triage, case management, and engaging and consulting with MassArt staff, faculty, administration, and outside treatment providers to ensure optimal student care.
The general office hours for the CWC are Monday-Thursday 9:00 am – 7:30 pm and Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Each CWC staff member will work one day a week 11:30 am – 7:30 pm. This is an 11 month position.
Summary of Duties
Support at-risk and under-resourced students by meeting with them 1:1 initially and regularly to develop individual student success plans based on their unique circumstances and access to resources. Assist them in accessing services at the college and in the community by collaborating with Counseling and Wellness Center staff, Dean of Students, the Academic Resource Center, and other college departments and off-campus treatment providers and resources. Consult with parents, faculty, college administrators, and student development staff when appropriate. Attend the students at risk Assessment and Care Team (ACT) meetings. Review patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) forms from Student Health Services and follow up with students at risk.
With a focus on social justice and equity, provide culturally informed clinical mental health services to all MassArt students and outreach programs to the MassArt community, depending on case management demands. Ensure clinical services and record-keeping are in ethical and regulatory compliance.
Build and maintain effective liaison relationships with off-campus mental health providers, private practitioners, hospitals and inpatient units, and other community partners. Establish and maintain a comprehensive database for mental health providers in the Boston area and assist students in finding mental health care near their homes. Develop and implement effective systems for follow-up with students who have been referred to community resources to ensure they are successfully referred.
Facilitate psychiatric hospitalizations, as needed, including communicating with hospital case managers, obtaining discharge summaries, and receiving
recommendations from hospital treatment providers. Provide follow up based on disposition following discharge (e.g., return to campus, medical leave of absence). This may involve assisting with medical leave of absence, tracking cases to ensure student compliance with recommendations, and referral to appropriate on-and off-campus support.
Facilitate Medical Leave of Absence (MLOA) and return from MLOA: Collect all pertinent information for students requesting an MLOA. Whenever possible, maintain contact with students on MLOA. Facilitating return of students subsequent to an MLOA includes collection and review of documentation, contact with off-campus treatment providers, and conversations with students who wish to return. Provide follow up and track students returning from MLOA to ensure adequate on- and off-campus support.
Attend and participate in Counseling and Wellness Center clinical meetings, Student Development Division meetings, and other university wide meetings as needed.
Support the CWC clinical training program, which has justice and equity at the core of its developmental framework. This includes involvement with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of clinical trainees as well as participation in seminars, case conferences, and other meetings relevant to the training program.
Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Master's degree in social work, counseling, or related mental health field required.
Licensed or license-eligible as an LICSW, LMHC, or Psychologist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (must file for licensure in MA immediately upon hire and obtain license in accordance with MA State Board of Health prevailing standards and schedules).
Three to five years of case management experience, at least two years of which must be with mental health clients.

Experience with people from marginalized groups and the issues they face as they navigate within dominant culture(s) and between cultures.
Demonstrated experience providing clinical services for the wide range of presenting issues seen in college students, including assessing and managing risk and the treatment of serious concerns (e.g., eating disorders, prodromal symptomatology).
Appreciation and knowledge of intersecting identities, the process of identity development (intersectional identity development), and how this varies between individuals.
Training or experience with issues such as racial fatigue, code switching, and impostor feelings.
Ability to manage a full caseload within a brief treatment, time-limited clinical setting.
Ability to manage crisis situations, including suicidality and danger to others.
Highly effective interpersonal skills; Ability to work well with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds; Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources in order to make informed recommendations for the best welfare of the students.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to the developmental orientation of the CWC.
Successful candidate will be required to meet pre-employment background screening requirements.
Familiarity with a variety of cultures (both international and domestic).
Experience living, studying, or working outside the United States.
Fluency in multiple languages.
Clinical experience working with international, immigrant, and / or refugee populations.
Experience in a college or university counseling center.
Demonstrated experience with computer information systems Colleague and/or Titanium preferred.
Strong outreach, presentation, and consultation skills.
Experience providing process group therapy.
Knowledge of current case management trends and literature.
