Detailed Job Description STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT
Provide basic counseling in the areas of personal safety, conflict resolution, roommate/neighbor conflict, and academic success
Collaborate and coordinate campus and community resources with various campus departments to identify and outreach to students who are facing academic, emotional, and mental health related issues
Provide outreach and follow-up on mental health crises with residents as directed by the Student Behavior Consultation Team (SBCT)
Advocate for student needs/initiatives that enhance the living/learning environment
Facilitate the development, planning, marketing and execution of programmatic initiatives which incorporate a focus on student wellness, engagement and academic success
Maintain a flexible schedule of availability to meet the needs of students
Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately
Utilize appropriate software platforms/digital systems to maintain student records
SUPERVISION AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Responsible for the overall leadership and development of residential communities housing approximately 900-1000 students in RIT apartments with a special focus on facilitating the adjustment of upperclassmen students to apartment-style living
During the summer, an Area Director will provide support to all students living in campus housing, coordinate the summer duty coverage, and supervise the summer paraprofessional staff
Facilitate weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one supervisory meetings with paraprofessional staff
Coordinate annual plans of work for oneself and paraprofessional staff, which incorporate professional & personal goals and development
Provide comprehensive training, ongoing staff development and evaluation of staff
Manage staff development and residential education budget as well as oversee procurement card purchases by student staff
STUDENT CONDUCT AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT
The Area Director is assigned to the Center for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution office as a one day a week assignment to support both case adjudication and the completion of identified projects to support the strategic and operational efforts of the Center for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.
Conduct upper-level student conduct hearings, and make decisions about educational sanctions, behavioral contracts and campus referrals.
The Area Director may serve as Title IX co-hearing officer
Participate in an on-call duty rotation that supports the paraprofessional and professional staff within the residence halls and apartment area
Interpret and execute University, Division, and Center policies and procedure
COMMITTEE AND PROJECT WORK
Responsibility for contributing significantly to a department committee and/or management of a departmental service space or initiative; examples include but are not limited to RITchie's Game Room, The Den lounge & study space, RIT FoodShare, Departmental Communication & Marketing, or Goodbye, Good Buy
Ability to establish, build and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals
Represent the Center for Residence Life on Divisional and Institute committees.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Education, Psychology, Counseling, or other related areas are preferred
3-5 years of Residence Life experience post graduate school that includes staff supervision and serving as a student conduct officer
Strong verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated group facilitation experience
Strong administrative and organizational skills
Willingness to learn American Sign Language
Comfort and familiarity with Microsoft Office & Outlook
Experience working with diverse communities
Crisis management and conflict resolution experience
Experience working with & managing a budget
American Sign Language
Working knowledge of student development theory
Familiarity and experience working with StarRez and Maxient software platforms
