Davidson welcomes applications for Assistant Director of Education Abroad. The Assistant Director is a member of a dynamic team, leading and collaborating with multiple campus units and partner organizations to provide off-campus study opportunities that foster international and intercultural learning for all students. The Assistant Director manages application processes and outreach efforts, and coordinates logistics for Davidson’s office campus programs, including managing budgets, and serving as a risk manager. Successful candidates present astute judgment, sensitivity, and exceptional communication skills. They must be tech-savvy, adept in using Terra Dotta or a similar records management system, and knowledgeable about basic website design and social media.
Design and implement software upgrades for education abroad and off-campus studies application system. Maintain off-campus and study abroad statistics, generate and analyze data, providing reports as needed. Oversee all college web page information and updates related to education abroad and study away opportunities. Monitor international education reference and resource materials.
Work with Director, faculty leaders of study abroad programs, Business Services, providers, students, and others to manage fiscal needs for study abroad programs.
Liaise with provider study abroad organizations regarding student issues both while students are applying to programs, while they are abroad, and post-travel. Answer inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and staff pertaining to study abroad. Write recommendations and provide home campus approval forms for students applying to partner programs.
Review risks abroad and serve as a member of the risk management team to assess and respond to emergency situations.
Implement and co-design educational pre-departure and reentry sessions for students studying off-campus
Coordinate, advertise and host campus visits for partner organization representatives.
Advise students in selecting programs that will meet their academic goals, interests, and special needs. Analyze program materials, network with colleagues from other institutions, and participate in site visits and discussions determining the suitability of off-campus programs for the college’s approval.
Execute decisions for the Office of Education Abroad and supervises office staff as needed in the absence of the Director.
• Bachelor's degree • Four or more years of working in education abroad • Knowledge of standards of good practice for education abroad • Experience working closely with undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds • Experience using Terra Dotta software or similar record management system • PC literate with expertise in database management and MS Office • Highly organized with demonstrated attention to detail, reliability, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously • Cultural competence; personal experience with and enthusiasm for international education • Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work well with others • Comfortable exercising independent judgment while working under general supervision
• Master's degree in related field • Proficiency in a foreign language • Five or more years working with U.S. education abroad program • Knowledge of basic website design • Expense tracking and budget management experience • Experience creating marketing materials and in planning outreach events • Experience in risk management • Experience with social media (specifically Instagram).
