The Director of Campus Recreation and Fitness is a member of the Student Development Team and reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Development. The Director is responsible for the overall development and implementation of recreational sports and fitness programming for all traditional Anderson University students. This student-centered position requires a significant amount of night and weekend hours.
The Director is responsible for developing a comprehensive Intramural sports program for all traditional Anderson University students. The Director will hire and train a student staff of Intramural Coordinators to assist with the program. Specific responsibilities include:
Developing rules for each sport and updating Intramural by laws as needed
Creating semester schedules
Coordinating logistics for all games
Overseeing and training and hiring of game officials,
Maintaining IM Leagues website for team sign-ups and game schedules
Reporting of semester and annual participation records
Marketing of opportunities available to students
Fitness Center and Athletic Campus Gym
The Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the University Fitness Center and Athletic Campus Gym. Specific responsibilities include:
Hiring and management of student staff
Setting hours for each facility that meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff
Maintaining a clean and safe and safe environment by scheduling routine maintenance of equipment and repairing damaged equipment in a timely manner
Hiring student fitness instructors and ensuring that a robust schedule of fitness classes is available to students.
Developing orientation sessions for new students
The Director is responsible for overseeing the programming and staffing of the University pool. Specific responsibilities include:
Hiring and training lifeguards
Working with the Guest Services team to schedule lifeguards for camp programs
Responding to emergencies as necessary
Ensuring the pool area is well maintained by reporting damage and scheduling routine maintenance
The Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Campus Recreation Office. The Campus Recreation Office should be a welcoming space that provides excellent service to students, faculty, and staff. The Director is responsible for maintaining the Campus Recreation programming budget, including preparing department financial transactions, tracking student worker hours, and managing purchases. The Director will prepare reports regarding recreation and fitness programming as needed.
The Director will work with the Office of Student Involvement to assist with the orientation program during the summer months. In partnership with the Director of Health Education and Wellness Outreach, the Director will develop a comprehensive wellness program for all undergraduate students.
Basic Job Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, sports management, physical education, or related field is required. Demonstrated understanding of intramurals and fitness programming on a college campus is preferred. Ability to lead and develop teams, organize, and communicate effectively. Strong commitment to quality relationships, warmth, excellence, and Christ-like service is essential. Must have a mature and contagious Christian faith. Commitment to the academic and Christ-centered mission of Anderson University is required. Must be able to work with a diverse student population and demonstrate a commitment to the holistic development of students. The ability to work in a professional and confidential manner with all staff, students, parents, and the general public is essential.
