The Assistant Director of Athletics reports to the Director of Athletics and is part of an interscholastic athletics program that includes 30 interscholastic teams across two divisions, and a robust physical education program. The Assistant is part of Upper and Middle School, joining the director and is responsible for assisting in developing, maintaining and implementing a highly professional department. The ideal candidate will have a positive, welcoming demeanor and desire to be part of the larger school community.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Support the Director of Athletics in all areas of responsibility requested within the athletic and physical education programs.
Represent Bentley in the CIF, NCS, BAC, and BCL East; know and follow all regulations of these organizations.
In conjunction with the director of athletics, organize, manage and oversee all aspects of the middle school athletic program.
Serve as lead on running interscholastic home athletic events, including necessary set-up and welcoming visiting teams, officials, and fans when they arrive.
Serve as a contact for all constituents (students, parents/guardians, faculty and staff) on issues related to Upper and Middle School athletics.
Serve as administrator in charge and share extra/co-curricular responsibilities for nighttime and weekend athletic contests and events.
Serve as one of the managers of all athletic data on the school website, web calendars, and the athletic web and social media pages, including team rosters and practice/game schedules.
Schedule athletic contests and secure game officials; maintain constant communications with your various officials associations.
Maintain and update athletic/physical education bulletin boards and the picture wall.
Assist in organizing end-of-year athletic awards celebrations for upper and middle school.
Assist in the hiring process, including planning current and future workforce requirements, identifying the skills required for the job, and engaging actively in the recruitment and, when applicable, the interviewing process.
Coach at least two seasons of sport at Bentley School ~ additional stipend per season of coaching provided.
Maintain a positive, highly efficient, organized, professional and confidential manner in all aspects of the job.
Assist in organizing and administering specific aspects of the overall interscholastic/intramural/life fitness programs.
Assist in developing leadership program for athletics
Assist in fostering good school and community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program and events.
Attend faculty and LS Admin meetings.
Assist with Winter Spirit Night and senior day celebrations.
Participate in various aspects of student life at Bentley such as advising clubs, or working with student organizations. Be an active member of all aspects of student life.
Maintain confidentiality of students, families, faculty, and staff.
Maintain a healthy communications relationship with our league and section, including accomplishing all required deadlines for schedules, rosters, and other requirements.
Collaborate actively with Admissions Team and College Counseling. Participate in Open House sessions.
Assist with overseeing the maintenance and safety of the Fitness Center.
Assist with administering and preparation of overall budget for middle and upper school athletic department
Maintain student health records in the Athletic office, ensuring that required information is disseminated to all coaching staff as required.
Coordinate and disseminate information regarding middle athletic practices, contests and activities to school personnel, students and parents as needed.
Secure appropriate forms from athletic participants.
Assist with purchases and maintain inventory of all athletic equipment across the upper and lower school
Assist with overseeing the distribution, collection, cleaning, repair, and storage of all athletic uniforms and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Administration or related field or closely related
Minimum 3 year’s experience in independent schools working with middle and high school aged children
Minimum 3 year’s experience teaching and coaching middle and high school aged children.
Desire to work in an athletics department representing a diverse population.
Ability to work in an environment where flexibility is crucial.
Capacity to strike a good balance between engaging students and setting appropriate boundaries.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize workload.
High attention to detail and ability to anticipate needs and offer proactive support.
Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with core constituents.
Self-starter with ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems independently. Ability to identify appropriate avenues for solving issues.
Team player with a sense of humor.
Superior customer service skills and a collaborative, friendly demeanor.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, particularly, Word and Excel. Experience with Photoshop, Publisher, or similar software highly desired.
Satisfactory completion of two separate background checks.
